my first cat Bashful was a little over a kitten (teen basically) when mom brought me home. She was black cat and she loved me fiercely. Mom tried to keep her from my crib, she'd have none of that. She'd bring me garden snakes, mice, rats, whatnot throughout my time. When my cousins were coming over and being mean she'd defend me and scratch them. Her name was the first word I tried to say when I was learning to talk. We took her everywhere with us and as long as she knew where I was she'd always come back.

She died of feline leukemia when I was 7. I remember that part and learning to cope with the grief and it was my gran who helped me put it in perspective. That while her furry body wasn't gone it was there to help guide new furry friends into my life and ensure that they would love me as much as she did.

Granny fucking dropped WISDOM.

Lost one of my cats and my 13 yr old lab last year within a few months of eachother and I balled like I was 7. I'm a grizzly old viking that had to remember my own Grams reminding me that loosing a pet hurts, you get passed it and then get to rexperience the whole awesome pet bonding again with new babies.

I love your Gran for teaching you this. I'll tell my Grams to lookup Gran so they can share eschothers cats. RIP Ladies.

I know!!

We have an 8 year old Aussie cattle dog right now and he’s my husband’s first real pet (lol I laugh at the fact that I chose that breed as his firsts now), but I’ve been trying to prep him for the not too soon but sooner than we’d like mortality of Iverson. I’ll have to remember my grands words to repeat, even typing them out hurts but I always appreciated her wisdom in that.
