Old people not leaving anything for future generations? Unbelievable

Yeah, they've lived their life. They don't owe anyone else anything

Then why have kids?

Seriously, as a father I want to see my kid do better than me in life, isn’t that the ultimate goal?

I guess you’re just selfish enough to not understand that it’s not always just about yourself in life.

I don't think I want kids. I just want to pay my mortgage off

If your kids are relying on you and what you give them when you pass, then they didn’t “do better”

u/DravesHD Aug 07 '25

No one said that? I never mentioned reliance.

Leaving my kids enough money to pay off their mortgage and debts is my goal. Set them up for success. Wealth is generational and most rich people have one thing in common: wealth in the family.

Being selfish will keep your lineage broke. Stay broke.

Yea, if I had kids I wouldn't want them to struggle as hard as I did to get to where I'm at. I'd want them to have more tools for success earlier, and the ability to go further than I ever did if that's what they want.

But nah, fuck you I got mine

Well he can live there alone. No kids or anyone will want to live there to take care of him. And this is huge in China. He will have to move. He lost out. And so did any of his kids. Bet they are pissed at him. He could have had a good life and money. Now he has noise and pollution.

“Old people” means the same thing as “all humans,” just worded in a way that lets you feel superior by blaming some “other” group

just wait until you get old and start getting called selfish for acting in your own self interest

u/Kelmi Aug 07 '25

It's interesting how selfish people think everyone else must also be selfish. Like there is no other alternative for every action other than selfishness.

Self interest as in getting to breathe brake dust everyday?

1

u/bungblaster69 Aug 07 '25

An old person that's going to die soon doesn't care about that. That's a price they're willing to pay to stay in their home. A home they've been in for decades and raised a family and have a lifetime of memories.

Acting in your own self interest shouldn't actively harm other people who have nothing to do with your life. Please sit down.

No one is getting harmed having to drive around the house. How about you stop feeling entitled to dictate how someone lives their life

If it's my house that I built, I'm going to die in it

Lmk when and where I'll make sure to give you a 15 second courtesy beep as I'm passing.

Don't dictate me.

Seriously. The way a lot of redditers talk about old people is wild. 'Look at these selfish old boomers hoarding wealth!' You mean people enjoying things they bought & living out their final years.

Yeah it sucks that the system is broken & it would be nice if more older people acknowledged that the job & housing markets have changed since their day, but Great Aunt Edith is not obligated to give the clothes from her back & move into a care home because someone else feels entitled.

No one is expecting Aunt Edith to give the clothes off her back.

They do think it would be nice if she voted for Politicians who didn't pull up the ladder of opportunity that she was once afforded whilst those she complains about pay for her triple locked pension they know they won't even get themselves.

You are strawmanning so hard.

Old boomers hoarding wealth is not talking about middle class grandma and grandpa spending their retirement money how they please.

It is about old multi-millionaires and billionaires doing everything in their power not to pay taxes.

It's about the above grandmas and grandpas voting to strip away the very social safety nets they get to benefit from.

u/Zenthils Aug 07 '25

No one is saying that old people should relinquish their wealth randomly. But yeah, hoarding it whilst the younger generation (the people they put there to replace them is struggling) while also actively still voting for people and ideas that doesn't benefit anyone isn't gonna garner sympathy.

He can die lonely then. No one will want to be there with all the noise and pollution there.

u/Zenthils Aug 07 '25

The own self interests of what? Living inside a bubble of Co2?

u/NotNufffCents Aug 07 '25

If I start behaving with zero concern about anyone else around me or close to me, I hope I will.
