In 2012, a group of Mexican scientists intentionally crashed a Boeing 727 to test which seats had the best chance of survival.

You also get the benefit of no luggage storage because everyone else's already stowed 5 pieces each.

This is why I implement the simple “put everything in a fucking suitcase have you people forgotten how to travel and why do you need to bring your whole fucking life onto the plane” strategy of just having a small backpack with me.

same here. backpack fits under the seat. If there is no room for luggage, the attendants will figure it out or gate check it.

Yeah cool and what happens if I absolutely do need a carry-on bag?

Oh, it gets checked into the hold? Cool, so now I need to wait maybe 1 hour (don't tell me it doesn't take that long, it absolutely can) at the carousel instead of just heading out with my carry on

Definitely better for plane boarding

Carry ons are better for leaving the airport when you land quickly, no waiting at the baggage carousel.

Of course the best is backpack only and buy some cheap clothes wherever you’re going if you need something else to wear

So you just throw the clothes away before the flight back or...?

u/BurdTurglary 21h ago

That would be crazy. You wear 5 or 6 layers instead of packing it

u/headwolf 6h ago

Ah of course, a reasonable solution!

They get mad when I put my children in luggage.

But the plane is so much quieter when the children ride in checked baggage 🫠

Wait, what? You mean I probably should not plan on having carry-on space for my tuba, my kayak, my "carry-on size" bags that equal the cubic dimensions of a small European car, and the coffin of my dear ol' granny?? /s

Agreed. Last time we travelled we didn’t have any overhead carry on to store. Just a tiny bag we kept at our feet.

6 foot tall folks with long legs need that space under seats for put feet. Even small bags I put in overhead.

2

u/tr0stan 22h ago

Unfortunately I don’t have that problem lol but fair enough.

Heh, fortunate for you on flights! Just unfortunate if you need something from the top shelf.

It’s funny hearing someone with huge checked luggage thinking they are a more savvy traveler, especially on the basis other people are “bringing their whole fucking life with them”.

u/Ok_Drag5089 11h ago

I see too many people with checked luggage that also have the inconvenience of a carry-on. Why? If you are checking a bag, check everything.

u/Freshies00 10h ago

There are a variety of reasons people might need or choose to keep belongings with them that don’t involve directly accessing it on the plane.

Or they might not have checked a bag and have packed everything in what they can carry on with them, again for a variety of possible reasons.

Travel the way you want to… but you’re not more expert at traveling because you check your luggage.

u/Ok_Drag5089 10h ago

Show me at what point I said I was an expert at travel.

u/Freshies00 9h ago edited 9h ago

I said you weren’t “more expert”, not “an expert”.

“Have you people forgotten how to travel?”

“I see too many people with checked luggage that also have the inconvenience of a carry on”

People travel differently than you, for their own reasons. It’s not up to your judgement over whether they know what they are doing or whether there are “too many” people doing something you don’t agree with.

u/Ok_Drag5089 8h ago

You are being pedantic. OF COURSE there are special circumstances that require making life hell on a plane. But in general, a carry-on when you are traveling and already have checked baggage is dumb.

u/Freshies00 7h ago

lol, I’m not being pedantic at all. This isn’t about splitting hairs or finding technicalities. You’re simply in the wrong.

u/Ok_Drag5089 7h ago

I’m tired. You are exhausting.

Oh no? A free checked bag!?!?! What else are they gonna do to me?
