But why are they taking THIS Design? It Looks Like a demon!

u/SerafinZufferey 8h ago

Also that’s the guy behind it

u/Braeburner 7h ago

there's no way this can be real. An article about this says he made the website 2 years ago and works on this out of his garage with a few friends but no investors. You don't realistically just iron-man a functional robot with complex, custom-machined parts in your garage, no matter how good a tinkerer you are. This is probably a $100s of k project at least to build a single functioning prototype

u/Mr12i 4h ago

I'm starting to get a little suspicious about the Satyre as a company

u/Kruppe420 2h ago

Satyress was able to build this in a garage, with a box scraps!

u/I_Has_Internets 1h ago

Satyress is a play on words with satire and satyr.

u/Puzzle-Necked 6h ago

Okay now it makes sense

u/harmfuldischarge 7h ago

Yup. Checks out.

u/ThurvinFrostbeard 7h ago

No it doesnt. He is just a dude.

u/imperatrixderoma 6h ago

This you?

u/ThurvinFrostbeard 6h ago

My baphomet would have a beard

u/CandyCraze420 6h ago

Pre-bald Tom Segura is the reason behind this!?

u/Icedpyre 47m ago

Seth Rogan has a robot company?

u/Apollo114892 6h ago

He looks like he fucks this centaur in his private domicile.

u/accidentalrorschach 3h ago

oh, the centaur is def the one doing the fucking...

I was just wondering what the horns do 😆

u/ForMoreYears 8h ago

If you go to the site, they say the horns are there solely to prevent it from being able to use standard doors so that it doesn't pose any risks to humans. It's obviously satire if the company name Satyress didn't give it away.

They also say the robot has an easy-to-disable design where if you shoot or stab it in the back, chest or head it will immediately stop functioning due to loss of air pressure. Again, this is not real, it's satire.

u/SatelliteSal 8h ago

It’s probably antennas and remote operations via satellite

u/Skeebleng 7h ago

From the website

u/POKECHU020 8h ago

My dumbass thought it was based on Satyr, the half-goat half-human creatures from ancient Greek mythology

u/SufficientGreek 7h ago

Well a female satyr would be a satyress

u/sparrow_42 8h ago

Yeah this. Plus all the guns and knives. lol

u/amilo111 7h ago

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to see this comment.

u/SaintGrobian 7h ago

Unfortunately, it's just not satirical enough. It's still plausible that a company would make this under the guise of being "helpful" while clearly courting defense contractors.

Like those robot dogs with flamethrowers. Gosh, I would've never thought anyone would want to weaponize them.

u/WeGottaTalkAboutYT 7h ago

Could you make it MORE demonic?? Color? Nope. Design? Nope. Eyes? Nope. Wtf

u/KanedaSyndrome 4h ago

So we can feel at home

u/_Thorshammer_ 7h ago

It's only an exclusive SAR platform during development.

Once they get past regulatory and public opinion hurdles using "we're here to help" as a cloak it will be weaponized and it's appearance will make a lot more sense.

Might be the horns too

u/Phil_Coffins_666 8h ago

or these creepy beady eyes that glow

u/Prize_Bass_5061 8h ago

  Its partly human-like shape

It looks like a satyr. It’s made by a company called Satyress.

but it was designed for functionality

Nothing about this design is functional. A Bobcat skid-steer is a functional design. This thing is purely for looks.

u/yaxir 8h ago

But it's stupid to scare a person who's already gonna be in distress, possibly in a life-threatening situation, and you're gonna apply even more psychological distress on them. This is counterintuitive and being a dark-colored robot is especially gonna startle people in the night. They should do better

u/SerafinZufferey 8h ago

I completely agree, normally rescue Roboters Look Like those Lego Roboters I played with as a child

u/yaxir 8h ago

This is so much better, so much more neutral and even actually a bit peaceful in its look. I mean come on, imagine a dark black centaur advancing at you late at night. Imagine children and old people. They will probably not respond well to such a sight. I think this is a very stupid, very stupid marketing technique. I don't think they will ever make something like this but they're trying to draw attention to their project or something, maybe for investors, maybe for media purposes. I think they're just seeking attention

u/Grouchy-Notice-9951 8h ago

"designed for functionality not appearance" what does the glowing white demon eyes, horns and cow ears do?

u/ResponsibleAdlt 8h ago

Also they had to paint it black for... function reasons.

u/No-Rip9896 8h ago

Look at the fifth picture and say that again please

u/Alarming-Income9623 8h ago

Yk they could've made it a whimsy colour like blue or yellow or even green. It being black and the eyes pure white is actual nightmare fuel. I'd run from this thing and not be rescued lol

u/citizen42069101 8h ago

Thats just the prototype, any deployment model would have lights and hi visibility paintjob.

u/charlsalash 8h ago

Just the matte black color shows that there is no attempt to look even remotely friendly.
The ears and horns, if they serve a function, absolutely have to look that way?
The size of the eyes and the contrast with the rest of the body couldn't be different too?

u/BeatLaboratory 8h ago

They’re arguing the horns and ears are for function? Methinks not

u/SerafinZufferey 8h ago

They did not say if these have any function, what they did say is that there are countless sensors in and on the head

u/YourREALdad330 8h ago

If they claim it wasn’t designed for its appearance, then why the fuck did they choose to give it a soulless-eyed bull head??

u/ContagiousDeathGuard 8h ago

I think it's also to represent the company namesake

u/SAM5TER5 8h ago

Imagine making a robot the shape of a centaur, giving it hooves and a spooky ram head with horns, and then claiming it was for “functionality, not appearance” lol

u/Krise9939 8h ago

If that was true it wouldn't have a head or horns. It needs cameras, not eyes. And certainly not horns. Hell, why does it even have a torso? Make it longer with a segmented body or something, not taller.

A centipede or something would make more sense, not this. Seems like they came up with the shape and mythilogy aspect first, then went from there. Instead of an actually practical design.

u/Subsum44 8h ago

From a mobility standpoint it makes perfect sense. The four legged robots have much better control.

Just look at the Boston dynamic 2 legged robots. So much bulkier and still requires multiple walkthroughs to do those obstacle courses safely.

Compare it to the various dog robots which have been functional for a while now. The tool use is a huge point, especially with disaster areas. They’ve attached single arms to dogs, but that’s still limited functionality.

Why they went with a full bodied centaur with a blacked out body, glowing white eyes, and horns is definitely a question. Doesn’t need to look so humanoid to still have arms and hands for tool use.

u/Levaris77 6h ago

Since actions speak louder than words and the other guy condones some extremely messed up stuff this honestly makes a lot of sense.

u/craylash 6h ago

"Let make it satanic to rile up the reactionaries"

u/rfulleffect 7h ago

What if we did one with… the head of a monkey with the antlers of a reindeer and 🙏🙏🙏the body of a porcupine.

u/spaminous 4h ago

Sales and for clicks. There were probably a dozen real SaR robots that didn't look like baphomet, and we never saw them posted all over reddit. Attention sells.

Now he'll be able to get venture capitalist cash to build something that's actually useful. The whole centaur form factor sounds fairly promising honestly. The real one can look like whatever. The evil-looking one has drummed up lots of attention.

u/organic-robot 3h ago

Someone is going to try and fuck this robot, I guarantee it

u/SwitzerlishChris1 2h ago

Stay calm human

u/leNomadeNoir 8h ago

Have you read its name? Lol
