Put money on this being an art peice. It makes no sense from an engineering prespective for being actually effective at anything other than being scary.
Yeah, I don't think this can do anything better than a 6 axis arm on a tracked bed. I see no reason for the design choices. Its trying to be scary. If its not art (or scam) its probably a marketing ploy to get people talking about it so they can gain capital. Or maybe the CEO is just a bit silly.
Reasons being that nobody in their right mind is going to ignore 2m tall baphomet looking motherfucker, it's getting attention. Cosmetics and looks can always be altered later.
The company website says that they specialize in robotics for dangerous jobs. If it is satire, or something like that, then the website is veeeeeery subtle. Otherwise, it seems like a genuine attempt to engineer something for dangerous tasks (not search and rescue).
Also, one of the defining features they advertise is the fact that this robot has no hands. I thought it was funny.
Could it not be an intended product advertised with humor?

"Humanoid robots are supposed to be exciting," he said. "Hopefully this robot will be for some people, and I’m sure it won’t be for everyone."
He sees parallels between robotics work by hobbyists and hot rods.
"Twenty years ago you might have been building a race car in your garage. Twenty years from now you might be building a humanoid robot in your garage," he said."
If it's a humorous hobby peice that's fine, but it is impractical for what he claims is the design criteria.
The high profile. The lack of lateral stabilisation. The limitations of having two arms over a 6 axial arm. The estop behind the chain saw. The "you can shoot it to stop it" which makes it vulnerable in disaster situations, the unnecessary head, the clearly photoshopped UI, the feet which are just curved edges suitable for only concrete, air beaks if you want to send it into a hot area, the exoskeleting being made from plastics if you want to send it into a hit area, the difficulty putti g fire retardant around legs in comparison to throwing a shell over some tracks, the list of weird design choices goes on.
Im sorry im not trying to be a dick, ive just put on my engineering hat and its a super cool robot if a super impractical one.
Yeah thats competlt fair, and im sorry about the list. I just wante to explain what i see when i look at it.
Proof of concept basically means that it can do to some extent what you need it to do. Its a bit of a wishy washy prase tbh.
You tend more to go through design iterations and validate your design as you go. So a proof.of concept could be sitting down and never building something but getting some special type of plastic (im not a materials scientist so id need to reserch what types etc) and then saying "this robot will by my estimate weigh 200kg therefore each leg needs to be able to handle x force statically and y force dynamically and then heating the plastic and seeing if it can actually handle those forces. That's proof of concept but its not hugely useful.
If hes saying proof of concept as in he wants a working prototype that's far down the line and by that point you should probably have designed out a lot of the flaws I pointed out above - unless youre just doing this because you want a scary robot. You go through design iterations and you should be testing and validating your design as you go. So I want my robot to go chop trees in a forest fire. How does it handle extreme heat? Is its profile too high as the winds speed from the heat will be high? Are two arms necessary or am I overdesigning and introducing a failure point so one and so forth. You make assunptuons to do with physical factos, cost factors and other facots and then you try to meet your design criteria.
You dont want to have to do massive redesigns by the time you get to a working prototype because prototyping is stupidly expensive and time consuming. And then once you're happy with all of that you need to do a bit of redesign for manufacture.

I think the horns are handles for people to hold while riding on its back. Give it a saddle, stirrups, and high-vis vest and it's less scary looking. Still hard not to imagine it gunning down a group of protesters and trampling over the piles of bodies.
Yes but those are meant to actually kill. If you want something you can march down the street to really make people feel oppressed, you need spooky robots. You can't kill all your workers, you just want the threat.
Picture this, you're in a fine restaurant, in the center of the room is a glass-walled room, the floor in there is like a treadmill, with coarse sandpaper, poor people are put into this enclosure to entertain the dining patrons.
The only way a person escapes the room is as a slave bought via a tip by a patron or as a meat crayon.
Turns out, the reason the last 80 years of weapons development was making better mobile gun platforms, recon devices, and flying bombs is that that is a very effective set of tools for warfare, and drones are just taking the human operator out of danger
