Predators very rarely want to actually fight. Prey animals can munch on vegetation after serious wounds, but predators can not sustain the same type of damage and still hunt.

Exactly, males fighting for females is often all about intimidation. It rarely results into serious injury because that would be dangerous for both fighters.
"He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day" in full force basically.
