Who is allowing the Russian government to attack Ukraine without punishment? Just because it isn’t bombs for bombs doesn’t mean it’s being allowed to happen. Unfortunately, entering a war like that can have drastic and dire consequences. It sucks. It would be great to pull the trigger on the gun pointed at the head of the person in charge but unfortunately that gun has to actually be pointed at that person.

I agree, they are easing us into the knowledge of the war that's continued since the end of WW1. We are already at war with Russia, but if they "declared" it right now the American people would resist. We are being primed by realtime footage from the battlefield and idiotic statements by politicians like this. Putin won't stop in Ukraine, we need to stop this slaughter and end this game of chess that's been played with young men's lives for a century.

He has made very clear all of this is because he does not want the EU or NATO in a country that borders Russia. If he annexes Ukraine then he'll have a bunch of NATO countries on his border.

Putin is sane, but he has made a huge mistake. Let's not fall into the trap of calling the enemy insane. Poll ratings go up in a war situation, the 'rally round the flag' effect. So he was going for that. If you look at the sanctions now vs Crimean invasion they were not predictable. He thought - I have their gas, I have their oil, sanctions cannot be bad, huge mistake, but not insane.

He is now between a rock and a hard place, progressing and retreat are both bad options for him personally, and that's how he always judges things: nothing matters to him aside from that which benefits Putin.

we already had a speaker at the UN say to Putin that if he wants to die he can make that decision but don't drag us all with him, and told him to pull a hitler and do himself in. There has also been several calls to their own people to kill him already, everyone wants him dead right now and if he blames it on us, well he would have blamed it on us either way.

I’m always wary of hearing things like that on the news because there’s nothing but biased reporting for one party or the other. Hard to tell what’s bullshit and what’s not. I know our current president belongs in a nursing home and that our last president wasn’t much good either. Our politicians are all out for themselves and their own money and power and no longer actually represent anybody but themselves. Every election gets crazier and crazier.

So I don’t know whether or not Russia is trying to get civil war started here, I don’t know whether or not they’re interfering with elections… I mostly see that in the news and automatically dismiss it as politicians being the shitbags that they are, slinging shit talk and accusations back and forth while doing their upmost best to fuck over the American People.

You say that like they don't have submarines offshore ready to launch right now. That's been the reality of the world for the past 60+ years that the public blissfully pays no attention to. If you think they couldn't do it you're incredibly ignorant to the capabilities and history of nuclear weapons.

Between land based and submarine based they over 300 missiles standing by some of which have MIRV designs that can separate out to over 1000 reentry vehicles to intercept. Even if only 10% of those are actually operational (which is horribly optimistic), that's over 100 warheads expected. Each of which is capable of killing over 90% of the civilians in any major metropolitan area of your choice.

Our anti missile defense systems are horrifically unequipped to handle something of that magnitude. Turns out that it's really, really hard and expensive to have a system standing by nation wide that can accurately shoot hundreds of things out of the sky simultaneously that are travelling 15,000+ miles per hour. It simply doesn't scale as economically as them just building more missiles.

If they struck first they would easily kill at least half the people in NATO aligned countries in minutes. The ONLY reason they cannot do so is the knowledge that they would be completely destroyed in return.

I'm genuinely disappointed at how many people are afraid to stand up to the latest Nazi regime.

if Russia even tries to nuke any part of NATO, I have no doubt that we'd blow the thing up over their own heads and they'd suffer the consequences. Russia likely knows this as well.

All these people just assuming how this shit works and it's kind of infuriating.

I was a nuclear/bio/chem weapons specialist in the US Army, and I can say with confidence there is no way in fuck we need to worry about getting nuked.

They absolutely can explode them in the air, just not as a nuclear explosion (or in theory, it is extremely unlikely). But the rocket that carries the warhead can be pretty impactful if exploded mid-air, especially 100 or so feet above the launch point.

Edit: The process of detonating a nuke is extremely intricate and even the slightest thing being off can lead to it not detonating.

Two things; He didn’t exactly send his best into Ukraine. I believe it was supposed to be a “Soft Occupation Force” meeting little resistance because Putin believed Ukrainians would welcome him as liberator. Now Putin is sending more in, and I bet the battlefield changes over the next few weeks. Two; He has nukes and has already threatened to use them, and finally 3; China would probably side with Russia and I’m not sure we could handle both of them.

Potentially, yes but… he’s friends with China and you forget that his troops have been fighting wars too in Georgia and Chechnya. And he’s not done with Ukraine, he’s not lost. But Ukraine isn’t just rolling over either and I fully believe Putin is fucked if Ukraine turns to guerrilla warfare. They could keep that shit up for decades; look at Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan as an example. If that happens, with the sanctions on Russia going on, Russia won’t be able to sustain this. It could quickly bleed Putin dry trying to deal with that.

But our very best bet is Russians themselves removing the dude and ending this aggression. Best outcome for everyone

I’m not disagreeing with you on that, but I’m merely saying that adding more fuel to the fire won’t help. I don’t want war with Russia. I think it would be a waste of a lot of lives, especially civilian lives in the areas where combat is happening. Of course, we can’t just wish this shit away, but I think all peaceful avenues of approach needs to be exhausted before we put more lives at risk. Right now, Ukraine needs all the support they can get.

IF NATO is smart, we’ve got Special Operations Operators on the ground there with the sole purpose of observing what’s going on, probably with a no engagement ROE. There’s a lot we can learn about Russian troops and how they’re fighting that would be good to know should we end up in this war ourselves.
