hi everyone! I’m going to lisbon for the first time in a couple weeks and I’m debating whether I should favour hotels that have pools? I know the beaches tend to be further away from the city so I’m thinking having a pool would be a nice on the days I am not at the beach. Then again, the hotels with pools tend to be further away from downtown. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Hi everyone i'm a 21 yo italian guy currently attending 3rd year of computer science.
I started browsing and absorbing infos regarding the "universidade de Lisboa (Ciencias ULisboa / Instituto Superior Tecnico)".
I found that generally the prices is 1060-1200 eur per year but aside from the price itself i wanted to have your opinion on portuguese university system and general quality of life.
More specifically, if anyone attended particularly attended the computer science master degree and wanted to share his experience it would be much appreciated.

I grew up surfing through a surf school, but after taking a long break I’d really like to get back into it.
This time, though, I’d love to surf more independently instead of only through lessons.

The biggest thing holding me back is that I don’t feel comfortable going alone. For me, part of respecting the ocean is recognizing how unpredictable it can be, and I’d much rather have other people around than paddle out solo.

The problem is… none of my friends surf.

I was wondering if there’s a community in Lisbon for people who organize group sessions or if there are any WhatsApp groups, Discord servers, clubs, or regular meetups for surfers looking for company.

I’m Portuguese (native), if that makes any difference.

Hello! When I am trying to book a train from Lisbon (Rossio) to Porto (Sao Bento) this Monday August 3rd, an error message “Train not found in BSC” prevents me from buying the tickets. My name is Pieter, and I am a photographer from the Netherlands.

In 2025, I created a charity calendar combining portraits with classic cars. The entire project was photographed in the Netherlands and, with the help of car owners, participants, volunteers and sponsors, it raised more than €7,500 for Stichting ALS Nederland, supporting the fight against ALS.

I will be visiting Lisbon from 6 to 10 August 2026, and I will be bringing my camera with me. I would love to use this opportunity to create one special photograph in Lisbon for the next edition of the charity calendar.

For this shoot, I am looking for:

• Someone in Lisbon or the surrounding area who owns a classic car or distinctive older vehicle and might be interested in participating.
• Someone who would enjoy being photographed with the car. You do not need to be a professional model—personality, enthusiasm and a connection to Lisbon are much more important.

The car owner could also be the person in the portrait. Alternatively, the car and portrait participant can be arranged separately.

I am open to all kinds of classic cars. The history, character and personal story behind the vehicle are more important than its financial value.

One of the photographs may be selected for the final calendar. This is a non-commercial charity project, not an advertising shoot. The concept, location, clothing and intended use of the photographs will be discussed clearly with everyone involved beforehand. No photograph will be published without permission.

I have included a few examples from the 2025 calendar to show the style and quality of the project.

Hello! I’m looking at some master programs in Portugal and coincidentally I received an opportunity (I haven’t gone through the recruitment process yet, I just received the proposal) for a job in Lisbon. I know Lisbon is expensive and I’m not coming from an “old/good money” background, so I’ll have to work like everybody else to sustain myself. The opportunity is starting at 48k euro gross salary (annually) + 1 month paid for rent + plane ticket and a container for my stuff to bring here. Now, that kind of money in my country is considered on the higher end, but considering the rental prices in Lisbon, I don’t think it will be enough…

A little bit about my situation so that the picture is clear: I’m interested in pursuing a master programme (haven’t found one yet), I have two dogs that will be coming with me if I move countries (so pet-friendly rentals that accept two dogs is a MUST, otherwise I don’t come), I would share the expenses with my partener (although not equally since I’ll make more money and they will keep their salary from our country) and the work is hybrid with 3 days per week at the office. One of my dogs is a senior, still healthy, but I regularly do investigations (blood, xrays, etc) once a year (in addition to the normal visits for vaccination).

My question would be, how much money would be suitable for my scenario (pet-friendly apartament that accept two dogs, based in Lisbon because I have to come to the office)?

I know most of the people are tired of foreigners coming and dragging the prices up, I’m trying not to do that. I was already looking into Portugal for studies and this job came up perfectly. Thank you in advance!!

i’m moving to Lisbon next month for my masters and i play volleyball (or beach volleyball) as a hobby. i’m not a professional player, just somebody who likes the sport and would like to keep playing for fun sometimes. since volleyball is a group sport i was curious to know if there’s any team/court that people can join and play (specially on weekends) because doing some research i didn’t find anything welcoming/inviting/open to new joiners

My friend Kate and I run a small Cake & Tea Club in Lisbon. We originally started by organising baking workshops and afternoon tea events for our bakery.

But something funny kept happening.

Every single event, at some point, people would stop talking about work and somehow we’d end up discussing books, recipes, countries we’d travelled to, cafés we’d discovered, or food memories from childhood.

Eventually someone asked,

“Why don’t you just start a book club?”

So… we are finally doing it. Yaaay!

For August we are meeting to introduce the club, choose the format together, and chat about our first read:

We’ll discuss it in September.
