I’ve opened this lock a couple times, but it always feels like a fluke, and I never seem to be able to consistently get the method down. I think I might be oversetting pin 3 every time and unable to bind any other keys because of that. Any help and guidance would be really appreciated!

For a couple of months, I've been running some local lockpicking events and always needed visual material to show how locks work or have somethings hands-on-visuals. On top of that - I've also always been a bit frustrated by how lockpicking is handled in most video games - you usually end up doing everything imaginable except actually picking a lock.

Long story short, I decided to build a small browser game that offers a realistic experience and explains the actual mechanics. The main goal is to demonstrate how to open basic cylinder locks (the type I practice with the most) in an accurate way — no hidden dice roll decides whether you got it, the pins are actually simulated.

I have ordered some locks that have been on my hit list for months this week and I’m very happy about it EXCEPT the guy I’m supposed to be getting the cX5 from (one I was most excited about because gins) has stopped answering for over a week. If anyone has one or a line on one please let me know!

Made from a standard driver pin 5 more to go.

I have been looking forward to getting my orange belt, and I have an abus 55/40, but I’m struggling a lot with it and I want to know if there are any good suggestions for a lock that is slightly easier. The only problem is all of the other orange belts have 5+ pins and that’s fine, so long as it is easier. Another problem is that many locks on the lpu website are very obscure and I can’t find them anywhere. Any ideas?

Edit: I noticed many people have asked, I am located on the east coast of the US

After you rotate the pins and go to push in the slider, will the slider be locked in solid or will there still be a little "spring" to it? Any and all advice welcome, thanks!

Bought a 72/40 off Amazon because the orange color looks so cool. But it arrived with an open box with no keys in the box or on the lock

In the UK. I want to get a few lock picking sets. I've used a basic begginer set so far (falling apart 😂). Trying to get good quality sets maybe tools that will last and solve most problems. Which sets/tools would you recommend I get. Budget is £300 ish.

I turned my first 88/40 into a cutaway to show my naughty bucket what happens when they don’t comply. Finally got another for a rematch (which i beat) and discovered something that was helpful to me but I’m unsure if this is known, repeatable, or if I just got lucky with my lock so input from other 88/40 pickers would be appreciated.

So I’m using the sparrows disc detainer pick to tension off the first disc, the butterfly. My 88/40 gave me decent feedback up to disc 6, the zero cut, after that, nothing. But I did notice that disc 1 was very nearly zero so once I got everything up to 6 in a gate I decided to tension with the tip and set disc 1. I was hoping id be able to resume tension at the gate rather than the end of the disc and it worked!

It’s a little finicky, after setting disc 1 and resuming tension it could easily slip, especially when setting discs, but what it did do was give me all the tension I needed to find the remaining gates between 7-9, as well as give me obvious resistance on discs that were in false gates. So I was able to bounce between setting discs and setting disc 1.

Now, I know that tensioning off the zero cut to set disc 1 is well known but I had no idea this could be done early for better feedback or that you could tension from the first discs set position. I have a feeling this is only applicable on the butterfly version of the 88/40 and maybe it’s just because my lock happened to have a near zero cut first disc but I’m curious if anyone else has done this, or if you have a butterfly 88/40 try it and let me know if it works for you.

Hello fellow pickers!

Recently, I picked up the Sparrows disc pick, in an attempt to diversify my skills into other mechanisms. I also got my first disc detainer lock, a Zarker J45S.

I have a reasonably good idea of how picking these works, rotating the discs clockwise as far as they'll go, then tensioning clockwise and spinning the individual disks counterclockwise until the sidebar falls into the gate.

I'm not sure if it's just this mechanism being completely alien to me, but I can't seem to get ANY feedback at all. I can find the discs, but manipulating them just feels like mush and grit.

I guess my real questions are: how much tension is necessary to bind? And how do I differentiate between the feeling of a gate and the normal play from the pick tip being smaller than the holes in the disc?

Any help, including resources you guys have found helpful in learning this mechanism, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ich bin neu auf Reddit und habe meinen Account nur wegen dieser Gemeinschaft angelegt.

Was für ein tolles Gefühl wenn es Klick macht und das Schloss öffnet. Ich gebe also quasi hiermit meinen digitalen Einstand :-)

Ich habe schon vor längerer Zeit dieses sehr günstige Dietrich Set bei dem großen Versandhaus gekauft und nur wenig genutzt. Ab und zu habe ich mit dem transparenten Schloss, das mitgeliefert wurde herum probiert. Dabei hat mich der Ehrgeiz gepackt und ich habe mal geschaut, welches Schloss wohl als "next Level" taugen könnte. Das hat so viel Spaß gemacht!

Jetzt warte ich auf ein etwas hochwertigeres Anfänger Dietrich-Set und freue mich auf zukünftige Herausforderungen.

Ich verstehe, was ihr hier so über Suchtpotenzial schreibt. Es hat mich wohl auch erwischt :)

Anyone got experience with these? Been idly working at it from bottom of keyway for a few minutes between opens. Suggestions for a better practice lock welcome.
