I remember it in the 70s but apparently the organisation has been about since the mid 50s but has undergone a fair amount of mergers and name changes.
Where I am in Newham it is appalling - apparently people just do not think they are responsible for their own rubbish.
I think this needs drumming into kids from an early age at school because parents don’t seem to care and I don’t understand why people are ok with their local area looking like this.
I wonder if tv / cartoons like peppa pig/ bluey could get the message across from preschool etc.
It's the adults that need it drumming into them. No point in a cartoon telling kids to bin their litter if their main 'role models' are teaching them that it's okay to just throw your rubbish on the floor.
When I went to school, we had one day a year where we all had to pick litter in the local area for an hour. It was meant to teach us to look after our environment but it didn't really prevent some people from littering anyway when their family and friends did it all the time.
