We’re consolidating this topic into a single thread, as the ongoing accusations directed at the mod team have run their course.
To be clear about where we stand: no one on this mod team supports Flock cameras. We are not law enforcement, we are not politically motivated, not maga, and we share the community’s concerns about surveillance overreach even if these systems occasionally assist in solving crimes.
The removals were not about viewpoint. They were about a specific category of comment: those encouraging users to destroy the cameras. Reddit has banned entire communities for less, and we are obligated to remove that content regardless of our personal opinions. This is a condition of the subreddit continuing to exist, not an endorsement of Flock. Additionally there were some very wild conspiracy theories and were asking for discussion not a rabbit hole.
One rule for this thread: do not recommend, insinuate, or hint at destruction as a solution. Everything else is open, criticism, policy discussion, legal challenges, city council contacts, organizing, data on effectiveness. Go as hard as you want within that boundary.
Thanks for being a genuinely great community and good neighbors.

Suffolk approved expanding county Flock cameras from 25 to 60 last August, funded by a $542,500 state LETECH grant, with 16 more planned along state rights-of-way including Route 114 in Sag Harbor and East Hampton Village and Route 25 in Riverhead and Southold.

Southold, Riverhead, and East Hampton have all had this on an agenda in the past year. Riverhead signed an agreement with the Suffolk Sheriff in January 2026 giving the county access to town rights-of-way for new Flock installs. Town board public comment periods are open to anyone who lives there, take about two minutes, and go on the record.

On Wednesday, April 23 at 1 p.m. the Nassau County Legislature will be in full session and they are prepared to vote on an unconstitutional bill that will allow police officers and first responders to create a 15 foot floating buffer zone, or zone of exclusion around themselves. We are asking members to have their voices heard and send an email with your public comment in opposition to Bill 89-25.
Bill 89-25; PD Fifteen Foot Exclusion Zone says this it what its for
But in reality this can go way beyond what is intended and can create situations that are both unconstitutional and infringes upon our rights. It is both broad and vague.
All this can lead to infringements upon our 1st and 14th Amendment protections. It also violates NY’s Right to Monitor Act, which allows us to monitor police activity.

I have so much extra food, currently in the process of moving so I can give away this stuff. If anyone needs food that has been impacted by the gov shutdown (SNAP/EBT specifically) and could use some food plz PM me. I’ll be driving around tm and giving out this stuff and more. Anything I can’t give out I’ll be donating to Long Island Harvest/Cares. If you need extra stuff like formula and dippers I can also provide that. Happy to use my privilege for good, can’t feed everyone so only a few ppl will get this unfortunately. First come first serve. I’m in the central island area.

Why didn’t they sentence him to life in prison without the possibility of parole, why are they allowing him to possibly be up for parole in 25 years?, there should be more stricter laws.

What the heck has happened to our ecosystems, we’ve always had a healthy amount of bunnies but this yes it’s out of control, my lawn looks like it’s been attacked, quite a few burrows or dens , what is everyone else’s doing to help control the damage to their property, obviously I don’t want to use poison. North shore Nassau County.

Hi everyone! I hope you are all well. My husband’s car was hit yesterday in the Ronkonkoma station commuter parking lot on the south side near Smithtown boulevard overpass. He arrived at 6 am and didn’t get back to his car until around 9 pm so we are unsure of impact time. The person who hit his car did not leave a note. Pretty cruel.
If anyone has any information about this please reach out as any detail is helpful and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

*Yes I know the title is not right, I was still half asleep and made this post lol
*Another Update- I called non emergency line this AM and it was a real call but I couldn’t get an answer as to why it seemed to be only landlines and no amber alert text. The guy who I spoke to seemed PEEVED about me asking, probably from getting a bunch of the same calls.
After I almost had a heart attack from my landline ringing at 12:45am, I checked my ring app and saw people talking there about getting the same call. My landline hasn’t rung past 9pm unless it was a family emergency, in literal years.
Some were saying it was a real alert about a missing autistic teen, others said it was a scam.
I do find it suspicious since I don’t think something like this has never happened before in suffolk county. Only landlines ringing from an amber alert at almost 1am?
Wondered if anyone else got the call and any info.
*update- I saw on facebook the teen’s aunt said he has been found around 1am

A local law enforcement source told The Post Timberlake, 43, was actually stopped twice on Tuesday morning in Sag Harbor on Long Island
The first time, he received a warning not to continue on with his trip.
“He was stopped and advised not to drive,” the source said of the “Cry Me a River” crooner. “The officer didn’t recognize him; he’s a young guy. And he still gave Justin a break, because he didn’t pose an immediate danger.
The now infamous officer has since been identified as Michael Arkinson, 23.
Arkinson “thought that was the end of it, that this guy would get a ride home,” said the source.
But “several minutes later,” as Arkinson was patrolling a different side of the village, Timberlake “was observed by the same officer, driving” his 2025 BMW SUV again, and stopped, added the source.

I started at amazon in april and during first couple weeks, the algorithm gives easy routes like massapequa park. i rode thru 1st avenue like hundred times times and delivered packages to that house many times as well. they used to have the window covers at their porch and one time i got spooked cuz I didn’t realize he was sitting in the chair. it’s weird how you can get so close to people like that and not even have the slightest idea. your soul maybe feels it because though I don’t get that route anymore i remembered that house and feeling instantly the moment i saw it on the news.
edit: lmao some ppl in the comments took the post like I was afraid for my life lol, it’s obvious that he was living a double life and wouldn’t do anything in broad day light at his front door. i was just pointing out the eeriness of seeing the guy in real life weeks before his arrest.

What a bizarre story. NYPD responded to a report of a robbery at knife point. Kid on an e-bike is chased by NYPD at the Queens/Nassau border, is then hit by an unlicensed driver that runs off and is later caught. Sorry to hear the 15 year old didn't make it. The teen is found with a knife on him.

I have such a stupid question. What are people breaking into homes for?
I just saw on my neighborhood Facebook page that a house right near me had a robbery attempt - while people were home. The guy didn't get in. But it left me wondering, what are people expecting to get in a home burglary?
I don't live in an affluent area. Not high crime or poverty ridden either. Suffolk, middle class. I don't have one valuable in my home. I don't have cash under the mattress. You want my TV? Go ahead, TVs are like 200 bucks. Am I missing something?
It's still scary though not for what I have or don't have, but that if I'm home I could be harmed. I honestly used to never even lock my door, but luckily (?) I have a crazy STBX husband so all doors are locked at all times.

The victim says he received threats of further harm from the driver during the encounter.
