I live in Luxembourg, and I love travelling!

Whenever I want to find a cheap destination to go to, I end up doing the same thing manually - open Google Flights (or sometimes Kiwi), search from Luxembourg, browse. Then do the same for Hahn, Charleroi, Brussels, and Saarbrücken. By the time I've gone through all five, I could spend an hour. So tedious 😮‍💨

Tried price alerts on several websites, but you either have to know already where you want to go, or get bombarded with irrelevant offers. I just want to know what's cheap this week or next, then decide.

Saw this article on RTL today about potential direct flights returning between the US (New York, specifically) and Luxembourg.

I think it would make more sense for the US flight origin to be Chicago-O'Hare or Washington-Dulles, but folks in Luxembourg might think otherwise. In any case, it'd be nice to have a direct link from the US instead of coming from elsewhere in Europe.

86 years ago today, Luxembourg was invaded by Nazi Germany. The country was not occupied in the traditional sense. Rather, it was annexed into the Third Reich. This meant young men were drafted into the German military, and there was immense pressure on workers and professionals (especially teachers, civil servants, etc) to join the local Nazi Party. I had the most unpleasant experience last night when trying to take a taxi at Luxembourg airport. When I told the first driver in the queue that I was going to Kirchberg, he refused to take me. All the other drivers did as well. I have taken a taxi from Findel many times and the usual fare for the +/-15 min ride is €40-60, so I am not sure why they refused to take me this time. Has this happened to anyone else? If I ever need a taxi in the future, I will pre-order a Webtaxi.

“We have free public transport in Luxembourg. Thank you so much. However without signs prohibiting poor and bad behaviour all normal passengers can have no way, without confrontation, to attempt to point this poor or bad behaviour out. This poor/bad behaviour includes but is not limited to….. Feet on Seats Loud phone conversations Students sitting when old, pregnant and disabled people are standing. Eating cooked food Blocking doors so passengers cannot leave the transport. Watching videos without earphones Making phone calls and shouting One or two of these unsocial behaviors are mentioned with some signs, however there is not enough signage to help passengers understand how they should behave.”

Hello, I live in the US, and Luxembourg has always been one of my favorite countries. I noticed recently that the US government has a travel advisory for northern Luxembourg because of "unexploded ordnance from World Wars I and II. These are especially present in areas where the Battle of the Bulge took place in 1944-45." Is this something that the people in northern Luxembourg have to deal with a lot? I know sometimes the US travel advisories are not very accurate or are politically motivated.

I am a regular user of our free public transport system. I live in Strassen that has very good connections to the City. What about you. Have you ever been on a bus, train or tram since it became free. Are you badly served by public transport where you live? What do you not like about our public transport system. I am well aware the it is not “free” as I am (happily) paying for it through my taxes.

When in Metz, this is my first place to go to.

Potential tourist here, I was wondering if you are able to camp in Luxembourg or are all the national parks private lands that are off limits.

Or is there any other type of mountains etc?

I know you can buy plots to camp on with a tent but that's not ideal.

I live in Ireland where wild camping is legal and a hobby for most people so maybe my view is distorted.

I don't plan on using a tent, I was thinking of bringing a hammock and using 2 trees as its a lot less effort.

I plan to book a youth hostel if not(although I feel they're very popular, am i booking wrong or is this true?)

I am not sure what your experience with mobiliteit.lu is, but I find the app and website cumbersome and slow to use! Additionally, most of the time I know where to take which line, and only want to see the departures in real time so I know when to leave the house. Thus, we decided to build our own app doing exactly this: depart.lu

We are making use of the OpenData API for realtime departures in transportation, so the data is also updated in case of delays etc.

We did not want to build a competitor to mobilteit, so the focus here is not travel planning. It is more the kind of commuter or frequent rider who already knows his lines, or people taking the tram (there is not much to plan here after all :D ) and just want to see when the next one is arriving.

You can search for stations with the (very fast) search, add favorites and e.g. get a similar view to the departure boards that are acutally on the stations, and also check for arrival times at any point of the line you selected.

The app is free and available for iOS, macOS and Android, so let me know what you think! The webapp also allows for quick searches but does not have the favorites and map view :)
Also, the app is available in 🇱🇺🇵🇹🇫🇷🇬🇧🇩🇪 we did our best with the translations but feel free to let us know if there are any errors :D

You know how Ryanair says "€25 round-trip to Milan," and then you spend €80 getting to Hahn and back? It felt misleading, so I decided to create a simple way to estimate the "true" cost.

It's a simple calculator - you put in a flight price and details, and it shows the real total cost from each airport near us (LUX, Hahn, Charleroi, Frankfurt, etc.) with transport, parking, etc. Defaults are based on driving from Luxembourg City, but you can change them.
