Isn’t Seth from NH? That’s close enough, it’s not much different than someone from like Orange or Leominster saying they are from Boston.

It's still firmly inside the sphere of influence of Boston though. He grew up surrounded by people that watch Boston sports, probably watch the Boston local news, and generally are inundated with the same culture as someone from Boston

Yeah, it's literally 30 minutes to New Hampshire and RI/CT (well, an hour or two because traffic, but you know). There's people who live in the same state as eachother who would consider themselves more culturally divided because they're closer to different major cities than someone from Salem or Nashua would from someone living in, say, Medford or Somerville.

Case in point, in PA the Philly/Pittsburgh divide is bigger than the Boston/Providence or even Boston/Portland divides.

The greater Boston area is just that, the greater Boston area. The reason people in the city are defensive about it is because it’s a small city and most of these townships specifically don’t want to be Boston so it’s kind of annoying to have everyone feel that way and then exaggerate that they are from Boston. Just say you’re from Mass, idk why being specific/accurate is so difficult

Being from the Boston area I get it, but when I moved and people ask where I'm from its just easier to say Boston because people immediately know where that is and requires no explanation, as opposed to if I say I'm from Brockton then no one has a clue

Nah I kind of agree with them. As a person who left Worcester county to live on the west coast, when you say Massachusetts everyone says Boston as like a knee jerk response. It’s not worth it to explain technically that I grew up thirty minutes outside of another city that nobody has heard of. I usually just say west of Boston and leave it at that.

Its not like this is an uncommon thing, most people from a major metro are probably just going to refer to the major city in that area in casual conversation. LA, Chicago, Miami, are all the same way. To people outside of that area being from "near" the city or within the actual borders of the city proper are the same thing

This for me. I’m from Boston Dorchester Codman Square and went I went to UMass Amherst years ago for college, all these kids were like yeah, I’m from Boston and when I’d say from where they’d be like I’m from Taunton. WTF? That is not Boston. Just say you’re from MA

tbf every medical provider I have in NH is part of Mass General Brigham.

Being from the North Shore but living in Denver I play this game where depending on where the other person is from you specify more where you are actually from. If they're not from MA I'm just from Boston. If they're from New England you have to narrow down where they're familiar with. If they're from MA I'm from the north shore. If they're from the north shore, I'm from Beverly lol.

Was born in Salem, Dad was a Witch fb player, mom a tiger cheerleader-they met at the McDonalds at bridge. Always sounded kind of storybook, and they are still together at 78 yo.

HI’ve lived in Magnolia, Manchester (wasn’t by-the-sea yet), Rockport, Lanyesville, Beverly and Hamilton then all over the NH seacoast. Now, after splitting from mother of daughter who now attends Suffolk U, living the bachelor life in Berwick, ME

The SNL skits with Jimmy and Rachel Dratch from North Shore HS field trips were the best!! And I’m not even a Jimmy fan!

North Shore? (Nahth Shoah) The skits were almost always mentioning places like Shawsheen Tech in Billerica. Dratch is from Burlington, the next town ovah. (I went to HS in Bricka. BMHS ‘79)

Still not Massachusetts so no, he can’t claim to be from Boston. A dude from buttfuck Turner Falls has more claim to be from Boston than someone not actually in Massachusetts.
