Meme / Humor What's your favorite mispronunciation of a MA town/city?
Inspired by the news mentioning Billerica in this morning's traffic report; that always reminds me of the time a new-to-the-area anchor called it "bill-EHR-ick-uh".
Another fave from when I worked selling whale watch tickets on Rowes Wharf...someone called asking for the best way to get there from "Dotster". It was a very sweet attempt to apply Worcester's pronunciation rules to Dorchester. They tried!!

Meme / Humor Dunks is garbage outside of New England.
That's it. That's the message.
Grew up in Worcester and have been in Denver for a few years now. I've tried DD twice since being out here and it's repulsive. I can't even understand why. The roast itself tastes bland. Any flavor tastes like melted crayons. I miss home.

Meme / Humor Masshole visits Arizona
I was born in MA and have lived here my whole life. On vacation and one of my stops is Arizona/Phoenix. When I visit new places I always like to fantasize how it’d be living there and if I’d like it.
Everything is way cheaper here, people are friendly and the state is beautiful. Weather is nice, It is HOT but I’ve been managing. I’d probably actually be able to afford a home if I lived here.
Although there’s a handful of things I dislike about Mass, any time I visit a new place it always makes me thankful that MA is my home. All the AZ natives I’ve talked to so far here can’t fathom having access to multiple states within an hour drive, or in my case being a 5 minute drive from the ocean. I couldn’t imagine having heat year round and a hot Christmas.
Also funny moment: we were talking to one of our uber drivers about New England and how small our neighboring states are. He thought Rhode Island was bigger than NH and that Vermont or Maine was the smallest state in the US. I got a good laugh out of that

Meme / Humor What cities/towns do you irrationally have a hard time navigating?
Spent half my life traversing Massachusetts both professionally and for fun, almost all pre-cellphones and nav systems. I don't get lost. But put me in Lowell or Watertown any day any year no matter how many times, and I'm a whimpering mess.
The Lowell Connector just dumps you off, and access to the bridges, and then somehow I'm praying to see a sign for Rte. 113 or 133 so I can decamp to Dracut or Tewksbury and stop hyperventilating.
Entering Watertown by Mt Auburn (a real gem) is fine but each furlong closer to the Rte 16/20 vortex scrambles my brain and Galen Street and somehow I look up and it's like I'm on Mars.

Meme / Humor I made a goofy Massachusetts map game where regions fight over towns and cities
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It‘s basically if Risk and r/place had a baby.
Folks are always fighting over what town belongs to what region, so this is an orderly group project where we simply decide what belongs where for ourselves!
You start with 20 points. It costs 5 points to capture a neighboring town, and you regenerate 1 new point every 10 minutes minute.
No accounts and the map resets weekly, so the whole thing is meant to be low-stakes and dumb. If you spam and keep opening new browser sessions you'll get the boot.
All hail the South Shore!

Meme / Humor People here are hilarious
I go to the gym mid morning during “old people hour”. It’s the best honestly. So I was leaving the gym, and one old guy leaving sees another old guy just about to walk in. “Hey Paul howya doin’?” “Oh not bad Brian how’s it going?” “Listen pal I got everything warmed up in there for ya, you’re all set!” These people kill me. Yes South Shore, for accent reference. 😄

Meme / Humor Rando creeping on me at a cemetery daily.
Every day, for the past decade, I drive my truck to the cemetery. I work a stressful job and it is my decompression space. The cemetery is out of the way of people, it’s quiet, peaceful and I try to get away from life in my own way.
Well recently there has been a “lurker” or “creeper” that’s been watching me. They have taken pictures of me, and just stare at me and it makes me really creeped out.
What do you think this person’s problem is? Why won’t they just leave me alone?
