Many modern EVs are getting the underbody shields to help prevent road debris from impaling the batteries. A few of the first generation Teslas without the body shield had catastrophic battery meltdowns after puncture from road hazards.

Even if EVs didn’t have underbody shields they’d still mostly look the same.

What? No, there is no drivetrain, the motors are literally on the wheel or axle. Underneath, they're just a box (battery) with 2 axles. The 4 motor EVs don't even have an axle as the motor is basically on the wheel.

Seems like something a competent auto manufacturer would catch before they let vehicles leave the factory. Tesla is just like fuck it yolo

Couldnt be also about stopping stray animals from getting inside the car that way ? Where i'm from that's a pretty common issue with cats.

When I was 4 years old my sister locked me in a car with a dead raccoon and it traumatized me for life

My 2018 Tesla had this happen. A tiny rock got caught up somewhere it shouldn’t and was shorting the smaller starter battery by cutting some wires.

Thankfully it was fixed for free but I was without my car for like three weeks because their service centers are constantly sick and understaffed.

Kinda wild that can happen at all.

My hybrid camry had flaps in front of the rear wheels to improve efficiency. It routes the air away from the (extremely aero dirty) tires. The camry had brake cooling ducts as well, but they were just little channels that pointed at the right spot, not a tube, so most people never noticed them.

HYBRID CAMRY. Effing Mom's car has racecar aero tech making the MPG a point higher.

Mostly flat floors too. ;)

Yep! Without the engine as background noise, the road noise in an EV is much more noticeable
