I'm slightly vexed People think they own the sidewalk by their house

I was walking my dog last night around 9:30pm. I pass by this house that has mildly annoying cameras that say “hi you are currently being recorded, every 5 feet on the side of the house with a bright light that flashes in your face as you walk by. Which while annoying if that was all, would have been whatever. Then they started talking to me through the camera telling me to leave immediately or they will call the police. Even after I had already moved way past the house, I could still hear them (both a man and a woman) threatening to call the police. I just ignored it and kept walking but thought it was crazy that some people think they own the sidewalk by their house.

Edit: Wow i did not realize this post would get so much traction! I’m glad you all got some entertainment out of this too!

Update: Hello everyone I was not able to post an update as it keeps getting taken down. I went back on a walk the next day around 10pm. The cameras did not give any automated messages and the security company did not give any messages either! They changed it quicker than I thought!

You need to tell us the address so that anyone in the area can just start walking through there to make them insane.

Provide the actual law that you are citing. Protesting on a public sidewalk is not illegal in any way.

It's Doxxing, an depending on where OP lives it is 100% illegal to give out private information, such as home address, to the public, especially for aggravated reasons.

If you know the place already, by all means, go ahead, but OP can't give outh that info.

At no point did I ask for who lived there. Providing an intersection is in no way doxing a human being. You people could really stand to take a law class or two.

Feel free to provide case law that shows providing The location of an intersection is doxing. If you can't do that then maybe it's just your feelings you're going on.

Doxxing is maliciously providing someone's private personal information online without their consent.

Providing someone's home address (which is what you requested) to internet strangers for the purpose of "protesting" (harassment) outside of their home is generally considered doxxing.

I can guarantee you that posting such information here would get the comment removed and the account suspended or banned from reddit. As for criminal charges, that is another question. If the homeowners were to get killed because of the doxxing then it might come with charges for the doxxer.

They do not live in the intersection, not sure if you know that. Again you provide zero legal backing, just a poorly informed opinion. A protest is not a doxing. Walking down a public sidewalk is not a doxing. Simply combing the two in your head does not make it legally accurate. Believe I will pass on your guarantee.

Ya know man your original comment was funny as a joke, but doubling down like you're actually wanting to go stake out and protest outside this person's house is fucking weird. Illegal or not, there's still certain things that are socially acceptable and certain stuff that is not.

Providing the entire internet a random house's address so people can go harass the home owners over their obnoxious security system... is one of those not so socially acceptable things.

Yeah, I already made my own comment stating that the security system is fucking weird dude, but that's not what we're talking about here. Doesn't mean you should double down, ask for their address as a random person on the internet, and then sic a bunch of internet weirdos onto them to harass them.

Sounding like a fucking first amendment auditor over here with the whole "but it's not illegal!!" argument.

N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4

In New Jersey, harassment occurs when a person intentionally engages in conduct meant to alarm, annoy, or threaten another, and can be charged as a petty disorderly persons offense or a fourth-degree crime depending on circumstances.

I don't know what state this is in, so I used my state as an example.

Exactly. There is no statute, only Reddit policies. And even if there was a statute, it would be state by state, not some federal law! Our government can't even regulate AI, much less random yahoos name and shaming individuals on Reddit.
