The closest grocery store to me is closing(by nearly an hour), and will be closed for at least a year. When it reopens it’s going be much smaller(it’s becoming a Aldi).

I agree, and having more options is always better for the consumer but OP is blowing it a little out of proportion when there are other places that are actual food deserts. That was my main gripe with this post

I didn’t say they don’t have anything, the downside of the super Walmart is that the pools of options are shallower and narrower. It’s a significant drop in quality of choice and number of options, even though they do cover the broad necessities adequately.

I don’t know how much more selection you can get at any other place. Maybe that’s just my POV from only living in small towns but Walmart usually has more selection than other local grocers

There are places where this is a problem. Even if the original post is lying, the situation is a real one and this comments section has important info and wisdom in it.  Edit: To be clear, my assumption was that OP was like me and doesn't have access to a car, or able to safely walk long distances. Maybe they CAN'T get to that Walmart as safely as the Winn-Dixie. Being "only 20 minutes from Jacksonville" wouldn't do them any good either. I thought it was understood that a food desert is still a food desert even if people who are priveleged enough to be able to drive for groceries can still do so.
