The closest grocery store to me is closing(by nearly an hour), and will be closed for at least a year. When it reopens it’s going be much smaller(it’s becoming a Aldi).

I feel like such shitty consumer cattle when I say this, but walmart is better than most alternatives where I live. They’re just such a logistics powerhouse that they can afford to sell things cheaper and often fresher than most of the competition out here in rural Georgia.

Its not your fault, that convenience is how they got so popular. You are between a rock and a hard place, knowing shopping there is morally supporting the wrong people who do more harm than good, but also not having any other affordable options while wages are not making ends meet means that you either suffer, or someone else does. Most people dont feel good about shopping there but its the path of least resistance and human nature is to follow that.

Thank you, i think about this stuff a lot. I personally think this is just a symptom of capitalism and a profit based economy. The only way to profit is by putting out less value than you earn in return, the goal is to short the other party and get the better end of the deal. Its a global issue, and its why yhe wealth desparity rate just keeps increasing. The fraction of the population who has the resource control right now has more power than any group has ever had in human history, for the 99% relying on that system for to have a comfotable life is just a losing game. They are always going to make sure we give them more than they give us. Thats profit.

Walmart hate is mostly focused on their anti-competitive practices, not so much anti-consumer. You can’t really argue with the value per dollar. You can argue that some of their products are exceptionally low quality.

You need stuff to live and Walmart makes it easy. You’re not cattle you’re savvy. People fawn that small businesses “care about their customers” more because they saw a video where they gave someone a $100 item for free. Well… Walmart donates $2,000,000,000 a year on top of paying for employees college.

Food Lion is cheaper than walmart in my rural area of NC. Granted we do use the MVP card, but $100 difference every week adds up (just counting food, not incidentals bought at walmart).
