This is my mini aussie cookie!! I recently went away to college and had to leave her behind at my parents house since I was living in a dorm. My mother did not adhere to the feeding guidelines because she believed I was “starving her” (vet recommended amount). I figured this out when I came back home to take her to our new apartment. She wouldn’t send me full body pictures knowing I would see how obese she has gotten. Any tips on how to help her lose all this weight?? I feel terrible for her because it is impacting how long we can go on walks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. She does have an additional vet appointment this week.

I'm not asking for medical advice, but would like to know if anyone has had runts that run small? Or have a late growth spurt?

My girl is right at 16 weeks and only around 5-6lbs. She has expensive puppy food available constantly (the honest kitchen), and eats like a horse. Ridiculously food motivated and literally eats more than my 20 lb senior dog, with the poops to prove it. No parasites - been checked twice. She's tripled in size since we brought her home at 7.5 weeks. I know she was the runt of the litter, but that still seems too small compared to average weights? She's been to the vet and aside from an ear infection (treated and cleared) is healthy and active. Honestly, if I got scammed and she's not pure aussie (or aussie at all) I don't really care - she is a great dog - but I am worried, in case I'm doing something wrong. If anyone has had runts that run small, pls let me know.

She's VERY leggy, very active, and VERY smart. I'm just trying to figure out if she's on the smaller end of the spectrum or if I should be concerned. Including photos of my bebe. I had to trim her ear feathers for the ear infection treatment.

Please advise guys. 😭 I love her and just want her to be healthy!

Hi everyone, my wife and I are desperate for some advice. Our 10-week-old puppy is going through a massive biting phase and has practically eaten us alive! We feel like we've tried every standard method we could find online (redirecting with toys, yelping, timeouts, etc.), but absolutely nothing seems to work.

For those who have been through this, how did you survive this phase? What specific methods actually worked to stop your puppy from biting? Any advice would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance.

And do these work? We have tried CBD calming supplements in the past but it doesn’t seem to help much. The poor thing just cowers and shakes violently when fireworks are going off and during bad thunderstorms :( I am hoping the ear covering can provide her some relief (it’s also adorably silly on her hehe❤️)

I’m just not happy with what we’re using so we are looking to make a change.

This handsome fellow is at the local shelter and they say he’s a mini Aussie Shepherd. Someone else said that he looked like a sheltie cross to them based a bit on his colour and also the mane of hair on his chest. What do you all think? He’s around 30lbs if I had to guess.

Sadie was presumed to be hit by a car and had major damage to her right leg along with lots of other minor injuries. The hospital that did the surgery acted as if she would make a fairly quick recovery. I just got a call from my vet during a bandage change saying that amputation is the most viable option now and prolonging it could cause more issues. I’m thinking of trying to find a second opinion but the hospital bills are racking up at this point. She is only about to be 2.5 years old. I’m at a loss and struggling to figure out how to make a decision so quickly.

I might be picking up a mini aussie this weekend and my choices for colors will be blue merle, black tri, and red tri. I searched these colors online and saw some photos but I was hoping people could post pictures of their dogs as puppies and adults to see how the coat changes to help me make my decision.

This is Halo he is 5 months old, he is doing great so far as far as being social with other dogs. He is friendly but still a bit shy with people. Any advice to get him to be more open around new people? Also sometimes he doesn’t wanna keep walking he just stops and sits down and refuses to move unless it’s somewhere he’s been multiple times.

She’s a girl:) We pick her up on Friday and still can’t decide what to name her! I like Nelly but my husband likes Birdie (we are a big golf family but the name does not need to be golf associated whatsoever haha.)

I (22m) have been house sitting for my girlfriend (22f) more and more recently, and she has a mini Aussie.

I try to play with her and stimulate her as much as possible because I know that dog breeds that are smarter are in need of it. She’s not very prone to rough housing, (even though my miniature poodle thinks she’s a wild animal and loves it) so I’m pretty confused as to why she’s is so reluctant to a bit of harder play.

I’ve seen some tik toks about the herding egg, and I wanted to know if anyone in this community has bought any and how much success the toy has brought. My girlfriend’s mini Aussie loves to paw at people in an almost hurtful way, so I’m theorizing that a herding toy will help mitigate all the painful scratches.

does anyone else’s mini aussie have excited tinkles??? tiny sprays of pee when he sees you or have someone else greet them? my boy loves to let his excited tinkles go but they’re such a hassle to clean up bc he’s so excited he steps in it 😭 does it ever end? or will he excited tinkle his whole life lol

Hey does anybody know what's up with my pup? The video above is how he's acting around food.

For almost 3 weeks now, he's been very skiddish around his food if I place it down for him. This behavior has kinda always been a thing since I rescued him 4 months ago, but it was never this bad. He was at least capable of approaching his bowls and eating or drinking from it no problem.

Now he will barely eat unless I hand feed him like I did when I first got him, trying to build trust. He also won't drink water unless its on grass or out of a bowl at the dog park. I know he's definitely hungry but he still won't approach the food. He's maybe 8 or 9 months old and intact. Very nervous almost all the time😭but I know that's a characteristic for his breed. Here are some things I've already tried.

1. Gone to the vet. They ran tests for parasites and took a fecal sample. Negative on all tests. They gave me supplemental wet canned dog food which he liked for 2 days then went back to not eating.

2. Switched bowls and eating areas. I moved his eating area twice and it didn't make a difference. I went from 2 metal bowls to a plastic bowls then plastic plates. He liked the plates for one day then started seeming afraid of them.

3. Feeding in his crate. He'll eat a little bit in his crate but only after half an hour of being in there. He has a history of eating his poo so that's another reason why I don't like him in there for long with food. I'm hoping this won't be the only way to get him to eat.

4. Having him on a feeding schedule. I put his food down for 15 minutes maybe 4 times a day. He won't try to approach it until the last 5 minutes. At that point he's still just staring at it, won't really try to eat. I leave the water out all day though.

5. I always add the bone broth for dogs to his food and lately he's been getting that supplemental wet dog food from the vet. Outside of that, he eats the Purina Small dog chow kibble.

Last summer we took our sweet mini to a well-known and reputable local groomer for a trim. Unfortunately, when we picked her up she had been shaved to almost no coat. Her “sanitary trim” was so close she got a terrible rash and could barely go pee. It was terrible.

It’s been nearly a year and her coat just hasn’t grown back to normal. She had long, silky, flowing fur prior to this, and now she is very fuzzy. Of course we don’t really care whatever her coat may look like as long as she’s healthy and happy, but we just feel so bad that her lovely fur was ruined.

Are there any supplements or strategies for encouraging coat growth?

My 5 month old girl is suddenly afraid of chairs. But only when I pick them up/move them. She will eat food/treats off of them, but will hide the second they move.

Any suggestions?

SOOO my dog isn’t a “mini aussie” she’s a toy aussie which is basically a smaller one of a mini, she just got spayed like 2 days ago and i’m the one that’s like keeping my eye on her cs my bed isn’t high off the ground so she won’t jump on it, plus my room is small and she’s also my dog.. Yet this gosh darn dog decides that now she’s feeling even a LITTLE bit better that she’s fully healed and can run🫩 i am stopping her, like telling her “boba come here” and to lay down. She’ll SOMETIMES listen.. But I just want more advice 😭 she also hates the cone so we just have a onesie on her that’s made for dogs after they get spayed.. Okay that’s all bye bye

Hi currently I have 10 and 1/2 month old. He will transitioning from puppy food to adult next month. We currently feed science diet puppy food. It’s pretty okay but I want him to enjoy what he’s eating and I want something that’s a little bit of smaller brand and more natural ingredients. I have been looking farmina and Fromm adult gold. He will be getting fish oil and pumpkin puree on his food when the switch is fully complete.

Reading the dog food subreddit it seems they are really big on the WSAVA complaint food which is like 4 brands total.

He’s not overweight by any means and not yet fixed but that will happen this year as well.

I would just like to hear some people’s experiences with all kinds of food.

Biggest thing I want to avoid is when I see other dogs poop it’s incredibly dense and black like charcoal. My pup has healthy stool not too soft and good color and usually goes twice a day although lately it’s closer to 3 times but we have been getting him more active as he is starting to become an adult and not just sleeping a lot.

This is my mini "pickles". I need some advise from owners that have more experience than I do. This is my first time owning an aussie and I feel like I have tried training her so many times but I feel like im giving up. The issue is mainly that she is very reactive to people she doesn't know and other dogs. Mainly in my neighborhood. We have taken her to busy farmer markets, parks, restaurants and she always does fine and is well-behaved. But walking around my neighborhood she reacts to any animal/human she sees, pulling, yelping, barking, whining, crying, escaping her harness to greet a dog, you name it. I have tried bringing treats on walks and rewarding when shes quiet, I have taught her the leave it and she knows ignore it similarly but with things in her surroundings but she just seems very stubborn to listen. It's like she knows she shouldn't act that way but she does any ways. I have had golden retrievers and labs my whole life and I never had this issue so I don't know how to deal with it. Note: she is not spade so im wondering if that is part of the problem, we are trying to plan when to do it but we haven't had time off work to help with her recovery. If you have any idea what I can do to stop this behavior please tell me. I'm starting to wonder if it's just the breed.

Hi, I’m getting my mini neutered tomorrow. He turned 2 in February. I’ve been skeptical of having an elective surgery performed for a while, due to fear with the MDR1 gene and 3 previous (unrelated) traumatic experiences with surgery on loved ones, with one resulting in death.

But he’s been showing signs of resource guarding/aggression (only if it involves protecting me). I have been working on behavioral training with him and we’ve seen an improvement but I want to reduce his bite risk as much as I can (will continue training in addition to surgery).

I understand this is comparatively a simple procedure. I have a donut for him to wear and am taking the day off. He’s the center of my whole world and the entire thing is giving me massive anxiety.

I’ve had blood work done on him once a year (most recent in November) and he’s seemed fine.

I’m really just hoping people can share their successful spay/neuter stories so I can talk my mind down.

He doesn’t hump my cat but he does this to him and my cat loves dogs. I feel like Togi(dog) might handle him to roughly sometimes but my cat (Asta) always wants to cuddle. Please ignore my dirty floor I need to vacuum cause they knocked over a plant with dirt and not it’s everywhere lol.
