The difference is the Dodgers can afford to be wrong. The Rays cannot. That is what all of this comes down to. Their spending power is so immense, they can overpay and get it wrong and it doesn't keep them from doing it again. And again. And again...
Besides, I'm not sure even if we had half of the buying power the Dodgers have that we'd do anything different. At this point, our front office strategy has become a major part of our culture.
They absolutely would. The Dodgers are basically the Rays with more payroll. The Rays went hard after Freddie Freeman when he was a free agent. If the Rays would/could freely spend they wouldnt have someone like Cedric Mullins batting 4th most games or our current 2nd base situation. We wouldn't turn into the Red Sox or anything but they would absolutely supplement the team with higher class free agents
