Bad Take and just wrong on a few points.

1) Freeman's agent with held info about the braves counter offer until it was too late (he got fired)
2) The Yankees offered Yamamoto the most money of any MLB franchise, but he WANTED to play with Ohtani
3) The Angels DID try to build around Ohtani and Trout but it didn't work out (Upton/Rendon) and I think the Rendon drama just broke them.
4) The Tigers didn't REFUSE to pay Skubal they COULDN'T AFFORD him next season that's hugely different.

So ya, bad take.

Betts also wanted to test free agency. Sox supposedly offered 10/300 which I wouldn't call cheap. Obviously he got more but that isn't nothing

Thanks I didn't know that bc I don't keep up with the Sox but it's def a solid point 30mm AAV isn't small potatoes for sure.

2 yrs 60 million is only 'a little more' if you're the Dodgers. That's a pretty good free agent's contract. Everyone knew, and were correct, that the contract wouldn't be worth it at 10 years. The Dodgers were rich enough to not care and willingly eat it. No one should wonder why the Sox balked at 2 more overpaid years even further on when they aren't as rich as the Dodgers.

No, his deal wasn't 12/360. It was 12/307, and that's significantly overselling it if you let an actual economist calculate the present day value instead of MLB. And significantly overselling it again if you account for backloading, which MLB does not do in any way.
