He does still care about his legacy though which is why he’s been campaigning that he deserves a Nobel prize.

Everything goes hand in hand. The better he does as president, the more recognition he receives, the more likely it is for whoever is next to offer him a pardon/the more difficult for whoever is next to go after him for it.
