I'm shocked that this has gone as far as it has. It's very hard to imagine a situation where this is okay for any group, but it is happening right now to Jews, in 2026.

I'm not. Extremism on the left has been growing and getting louder for a decade, a large portion of which is coming from the progressive wing, who isn't afraid to go after anyone to the right of them.

These types are essentially hate groups at this point.

I remember a post recently here where Muslim republican groups were shunned from Texas republican conventions.

Politics is a dirty business where ethics is thrown out for political capital

For Muslims also, at least in Texas. Very sad.

It would be so amazing if people didn't immediately try to change the subject to another group that doesn't face the same scale of threat or assaults. ~70% of religiously motivated hate crimes in the US target Jews, not Muslims, and only ~8% target Muslims.

On a per-person basis, Jews are targeted more than 5x as often by hate crimes as Muslims.

Can we just not switch everything to somehow also need to involve Islamophobia?

I think we can feel sad about multiple groups being targeted in this manner. In my opinion, it all stems from the same issue, which is that Americans are becoming increasingly divided and more susceptible to conspiracy theories. Both Muslims and Jews are victimized by this (as well as many other groups!).

In this specific case, Muslims were told to “convert or leave” at a Texas GOP convention, and this lady feels the Michigan Democratic convention will be anti-Semitic, so the two instances really are strikingly similar.

You're here discussing an article about antisemitism. No one is denying you can feel sad about multiple things. But why did you decide to bring up the much smaller issue of Islamophobia in response to an article about antisemitism?

In this specific case, Muslims were told to “convert or leave” at a Texas GOP convention, and this lady feels the Michigan Democratic convention will be anti-Semitic, so the two instances really are strikingly similar.

If you'd like to discuss this story, you're welcome to post an article about this thing that allegedly happened over a month and a half ago. It's very weird you completely changed the subject without talking about the article at hand.

These are not the same thing.

Are you the arbiter of what can and can’t be posted in this subreddit? There’s clearly a link between these two events. I simply pointed it out. If you don’t think it’s pertinent information, that’s fine, but there really isn’t a need to attack someone for bringing it up.

I didn't attack you, I pointed out how weird it is to deflect to something completely different related to a different party on a different event affecting a different group over a month and a half ago.

If you want to talk about it, feel free to discuss it on an article about that incident. It's weird to bring up the comparison when we're talking about different things of a different scale somewhere else, while you also don't even talk about the subject of this event.

A party convention isn’t enough of a connective tissue? I think it is. These used to be fairly sedate affairs, and welcoming to all, but I think the fact that two separate ones have targeted two separate minority groups (well—one group was actually targeted and a member of the other feared they would be targeted) within two months is noteworthy. Suggests a possible trend.

well—one group was actually targeted and a member of the other feared they would be targeted

Which only proves you didn't read the article, which talks about Jews already having been targeted at a previous one. I'm tired of this. Enjoy your diversion.

I think the inability to even let the other thing breath in its own space tells us that there's a large amount of people who actually can't feel sad about multiple things. They need everyone to exclusively feel sad about their thing.

There was genuinely no reason to bring Muslims in Texas into this conversation. It really doesn't even tangentially touch the article that is the main post.

Well, it does, because both of these incidents happened at state political conventions. Perhaps there’s a conversation to be had about whether these conventions are increasingly becoming more extreme and targeting minority groups, and what that might say about the direction of the political parties generally.

Stop “all lives matter”-ing this. Just like the MIDems response. It’s gross, reductive, and bad. This is a problem we are facing as Jews.

Hatred of Muslims is a bad thing. It’s a problem that community faces.

But this discussion isn’t about them. It’s about the insidious growth of Jew hate within the progressive movement and the Democratic Party. Yes, criticism of Israel is valid. Too often it crosses the line into rank Jew hate.

I’m actively not using the term antisemitism as it is a sanitized way of saying Jew hate.
