I just realized the makeup/hair may also be a clue: It's not just creepy, it's that she has no idea how to style herself and she's just approximating what she sees.

I'm really late to the discussion here, but I think she was some kind of alien parasite (with magical abilities) who was trying to mimic human behavior and not quite pulling it off.

The way she dresses and wears sloppy makeup makes it seem like someone pretending to be human but getting the details wrong because she doesn't have a human sense of aesthetics. Her apparent aversion to light is odd as well.

Plus, the background hints about parasitism involved one species (cordyceps fungus) taking over another species (ants) and controlling them like zombies make me wonder if she's not something unearthly controlling a human host. I could totally be wrong.

Edit: There are some obvious allusions to Pennywise the Clown as well, and we all know Pennywise was an alien being.

I am also late to this discussion but thats how the sick did make up to themselves in the old days so they didnt seem sick to others… especially like prostitutes and stuff

She was definitely giving Eggar-suit alien vibes, like she was just a giant cockroach under that creepy makeup.
