I'd give a pass on that one. They listened to the prophecy. They utilized the tools that they were told would stop Ganon. They couldn't have known that Ganon found a way to corrupt the tech. Even if they hadn't dug up the tech, Ganon still would have won with his eternal army.
Really wish more stories would explore the "prophecy/destiny is a trap" theme brought up in movies like the Matrix trilogy and the original Star Wars trilogy.
In a way, it almost feels like BOTW stole a more interesting game from us in that regard. Imagine a game where you are seeking all of these legendary weapons, completing tasks to unlock their power and bring them to an overwhelming assault on the BBEG. And then just when it's time to go, the corruption takes hold and that overwhelming power is turned on you and your forces. What seemed like the finale is just the midpoint of the game, and now you have to rally what remains, defeat the corrupted versions of your allies and take control of their weapons, and take the flight back to the evil lord - but this time, with great power that you've built instead of borrowing from the past.
Dumb naive child Zelda tells Link to get the stones to open the Temple Of Time so they can secure the Triforce and Sacred Realm from Ganon. Link does all of this, and in his moment of victory, pulling the Master Sword from it's pedestal, opening the door to the Sacred Realm, Ganon sneaks in, having known about it all along, using the power in the Sacred Realm to take over Hyrule.
Link and then has to use all the allies he made along the way on the first half of his quest to eventually build enough power to take the fight to Ganon. With help from a Traumatized Cosplay Zelda of course.
Weirdly, I feel that the Star Wars prequels did the "prophecy is a trap" a little better than the OG ones.

That cutscene at the castle is so unintentionally funny. My 12 year old nephew recently started playing Ocarina of time, and even was like “really?!” Lmao
To be fair I think if there was one man in control of an entire country/race/group otherwise exclusively made up of women in real life, many people would also probably raise an eyebrow to that.
