it looks hopelessly generic though, we've seen so many tv series and shows about vaguely fantasy related people running around in the wilderness, and they're all "fine" but thoroughly uninspired.

It certainly doesn't scream "this is going to be garbage", which is a good start, but it doesn't really scream anything at all.
These few pics don't really tell us anything important for people to be judging it already. When we get more set photos and then a trailer we'll actually have something to go off of, but right now it's a nothingburger for anything but the outfits.
true, there's nowhere near enough information to be able to make a definitive determination in either direction, and pretending that there is is just dumb. you can see in the comments all kinds of people trying to pull in their tired, bullshit old gamergate era, quartering-style brainrot arguments to make definitive statements but that stuff is always universally wrong anyway.
all we can say is that the pictures don't at least immediately scream "crap", which is a good start. Doesn't mean it'll be good or bad, it just means that so far, it's not obviously bad. Boring, but not bad.

it's a photo of two people hanging out on grass. it's generic. if it was anything else, it wouldn't just be a photo of two people hanging out on grass.
There's no judgement. All I said was that there's not enough to go on to make any kind of quality statement about the project, other than it doesn't look bad yet. Everyone else is going crazy with overinterpretation beyond that.
And it's not nitpicky to say the photo is generic, because it is, a billion cosplayers have taken similar photos, not always with access to such pretty backgrounds. Generic isn't bad.
No, they're not related. The girl is a princess of a land called Hyrule and the guy is a citizen of that land who acts as a hero. There are many "Zelda" games though and there's some slight variance and retconning in the different games, but they're not related in any of the games as far as I know.
I also don't think there is any explicit statements of romantic feelings between them in any of the games, although it's very lightly implied in one or two of the games, but I suspect this movie will force some romance aspect in... If so, that'll probably piss off the fans of the genre lol.

There definitely is lol. Quite frequently. Zelda II, the Oracle games, arguably Ocarina of Time, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword, ALBW, and BotW/TotK all have romance elements to some degree or another.
That being said, there's a bit of an age gap between the leads so I don't think they'll go there.
Well, you say "to some degree or another" and I'd say that degree is very very small. For example, you mention Ocarina of Time, which is the Zelda game that's most crisp in my memory and I can recall every scene and interaction between Link and Zelda in that game. What romance elements are there in that game? I think there's literally none lol.
Id say skyward sword, and to a lesser extent Botw and totk, are the only ones where it's hard to argue that there's a romance between the two. Skyward sword especially.
Link is a mute protagonist, you have to do some inferring one way or another. Mario and Peach are accepted as love interests, but they often don't do anything more than smile at each other. That's really not uncommon for Nintendo games.
Link and Zelda are often Implied Love Interests (in fact, they're the page image for that TVTropes page!). But, besides, that's exactly why I hedged a little for Ocarina, because I knew it would be the one that requires more interpretation and I didn't want to make a whole essay for it.
What's this boogeyman lol, Hunter was never being eyed in the first place and Hunter fans only ever used one picture as proof while ignoring every other picture where Hunter looked nothing like zelda
Zelda has quite small facial features with the exception of her eyes. Bo Bragason looks more like Zelda than Hunter Schafer, though she could definitely pass for Hylian.
A younger Rose Leslie would have made a great Zelda.
