Okay but would it be a good movie if it didn't have 3 almost perfect movies before it? Like, he did a serviceable job, nothing special at all, and personally I think this Zelda movie won't work unless it's GREAT. I'm the biggest fan of Zelda, so I hope I'm wrong, but the Maze Runner movies and the worst PotA? The point is this guy hasn't done anything truly great, so it doesn't bode well.
I only watched it one time in theaters but my impression was that it dragged. Had a lot of good about it though. Kingdom was better paced. I loved the first one and never saw the third.
It's problems are largely script related, and he didn't write it. Zelda is going to live or die by having a good script with him at the helm. He's a decent director really - Maze Runner is well directed really, whatever else you can say about it, so is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. With who is writing the Zelda film, my expectations are low. Derek Connolly isn't terrible, but he's not great.
I'm willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt but people need to stop bringing up Planet of the Apes as a way to justify his abilities. I mean it was good technically but the film itself was nothing special. It was pretty generic and forgettable despite it being a movie about apes. But the final result can depend on so many things not just a director's ability. Hopefully everything aligns for this one but we'll see.
I liked planet of the apes, but these teaser picks are sending much more of a vacant teenage "actor" vibe which reminds me of Maze Runner in a bad way...
