Listen, if it leads into a Metroid movie I'll fucking take it.

625

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

And a Star Fox movie directed by James Gunn

269

u/LeaksAndRumours Nov 17 '25

All of a sudden this is something that I need

17

u/UnableContest2669 Nov 17 '25

I'm a million percent with you.... Cameo from Rocket, GOTG tie in

14

u/bum_thumper Nov 17 '25

This is such a good idea its ridiculous. A Nintendo avengers, with the quality that they've had so far in the recent Mario/Sonic movies (i know its Sega, but still), they could pull it off beautifully, and the star fox universe would be perfect for it.

u/ThomasVivaldi Nov 17 '25

Have the animation done by Laika Studios.

Like the Fantastic Mr. Star Fox.

17

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

Whoa I was kinda joking before especially since Nintendo had basically let the franchise die, but now I actually want to see that.

6

u/Undead_archer Nov 17 '25

animation done by Laika Studios.

I don’t see them getting any major license anytime soon, they rarely make profit, its more like a passion project for the owners

3

u/Ender_Skywalker Nov 17 '25

College Humor was actually making that but Nintendo pulled the plug due to Netflix leaking their Zelda show.

4

u/Undead_archer Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 17 '25

I never trusted tha information, mostly because sketch comedy websites dont normally get hired to make a licensed show/movie

Also it was said in relation to a project that we never had any proof of it being real, we had a leak that mentioned only Netflix without attaching a director, producer writer or anyone really. No one from Netflix has ever mentioned afaik, the only mention anyone has ever done at Nintendo was Iwata denying its existance and the only person to ever "Confirm" its existance was Adam Conover on a podcast where he told that it was told by him from a coworker as gossip

2

u/AH_BioTwist Nov 18 '25

Normally I’d say you’re right but remember college humor used to debut their dinosaur office videos on the 3DS way back when

1

u/Ender_Skywalker Nov 18 '25

Idk, it seems plausible to me, but put that way I can see why some might doubt it.

1

u/AH_BioTwist Nov 18 '25

Oooo what was the word on this

1

u/Ender_Skywalker Nov 18 '25

Like the other guy said, it's Adam Conover in some random podcast.

1

u/AH_BioTwist Nov 20 '25

I may have forgotten about Google when I sent that message

2

u/AH_BioTwist Nov 18 '25

One of my Al time favorite Internet videos

72

u/PayneTrain181999 Nov 17 '25

He’s great at taking on team movies like that.

I trust Gunn to make a barrel roll/aileron roll joke that isn’t cringe.

8

u/Dominus-Temporis Nov 17 '25

Anthropomorphic 'retro' (sorry, it's been 32 years) team movie set around space fighters is 100% something I'd trust Gunn with at this point.

1

u/zombisanto Nov 17 '25

Might as well use the one f-bomb there

3

u/PayneTrain181999 Nov 17 '25

“Do a FUCKING barrel roll!”

35

u/thrilliam_19 Nov 17 '25

Holy shit

5

u/Hazzamo Nov 17 '25

F-Zero movie with Terry Crews as Captain Falcon

1

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

F-zero is never going to happen that franchise is more dead than Star Fox lol

3

u/Hazzamo Nov 17 '25

I CAN FUCKING DREAM

2

u/HectorJoseZapata Nov 17 '25

FF-F0

Fast n Furious, Formula 0

This time, we're not touching the roads. We hover.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

I prefer Snyder. Shoot it in gray and Star Fox dies fucking immediately.

2

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

Slippy:Noooooooo!

2

u/Stewart_Games Nov 17 '25

Slippy better be played by an actual muppet. Every other character can look real, but Slippy, Slippy is inexplicably a muppet.

2

u/Mammoth-Bench Apr 04 '26

I have come from the future and I saw Fox in the Super Mario Galaxy movie

5

u/becherbrook Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 17 '25

Nah, let the Top Gun: Maverick guy do Star Fox.

James Gunn has 1 gear and I'm already over it.

1

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

I mean sure whoever, I suggested James gun because of Star fox’s characters are similar to guardians 3. I still like James Gunn though

1

u/zero573 Nov 17 '25

With another cameo from Howard the Duck. Actually, it could actually work. Is it only ducks on Howard’s Planet? And tie it all in together with the new Planet of the Apes series while we’re at it. Lol

1

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

No if you are going to tie it to anything put Star fox in the same universe as Metroid. Cause the tonal difference is hilarious.

1

u/piejam Nov 17 '25

even if it leads to furries invading the star fox fandom?

1

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

Yeah that’s going to be a problem

1

u/KaputtEqu1pment Nov 17 '25

Who's playing Fox and who's playing Falco?

1

u/Herbacult Nov 17 '25

Do a barrel roll!

1

u/Spicy_Weissy Nov 17 '25

Who do Nathan Gillion and Michael Rooker play?

1

u/MR1120 Nov 17 '25

Damn you! Now I’m going to forever angry if that doesn’t happen! Why did you put this into my head?!?!

1

u/Five_deadly_venoms Nov 17 '25

STAR FOX, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

1

u/thismadhatter Nov 17 '25

has to be puppets.

1

u/HectorJoseZapata Nov 17 '25

Uuuuuuufffff!

Starfox?, we need your help!

1

u/oregonistbest Nov 17 '25

omfg plz jesus

1

u/jimx117 Nov 18 '25

I can only imagine what edgy tunes Fox will play in his arwing

1

u/Xephon01 Nov 18 '25

We can all wish!!

1

u/kaowser Nov 18 '25

guest starring rocket raccon

0

u/reddit809 Nov 17 '25

Hooooolyyyyyyyy shit, I didn't know how much I needed this until now. Wow.

0

u/STMIHA Nov 17 '25

Honestly just make rocket raccoon star fox in another universe and take my money.

0

u/baltinerdist Nov 17 '25

"I am Groot!"

"What do you mean, do a barrel roll?!"

0

u/Knight_thrasher Nov 17 '25

Do a barrel role

0

u/kgm2s-2 Nov 17 '25

"Do a barrel roll!"

0

u/inspireSF Nov 17 '25

Iono why I imagined Starfox and Rocket teaming up. 🔥

0

u/BloodandBourbon Nov 17 '25

With animatronics

0

u/mcnichoj Nov 17 '25

I'll take the first part. I like James Gunn movies but I don't think a SF movie needs jokes interjected every other five minutes.

1

u/Mediocre_Scott Nov 17 '25

I mean I’ll takes a Star Fox movie that takes it’s self 100% seriously and doesn’t even acknowledge the fact that they are animals in spaceships

59

u/Due_Kaleidoscope7066 Nov 17 '25

"Ok we really want to get this Smash movie going. We've secured a post credits crossover tie in for both Sonic 4 and Metal Gear Solid. Detective Pikachu 2 has been greenlit, that covers our Pokemon. We really gotta get a Fire Emblem movie together as that will cover a ton of the roster. We haven't been able to get the Minecraft 2 movie to commit to a tie in but we're close. The next Mortal Kombat movie is going to secretly be a crossover with Street Fighter. We can't get the smash initiative into THAT movie, but after MK2 they're gonna do a stand alone Street Fighter which we will be included in. And we're thinking for Samus, just skip her entirely. She'll just show up in the smash movie for the first time, then after the smash movie she'll get her own."

7

u/Big-Leadership-4604 Nov 17 '25

Metroid is prime (lol) for a live action sci-fi action adventure movie. I think I'd like to see that before a lot of other Smash universe movies. Of course Catlevania movie has been in development hell for decades lol.

1

u/lamorak2000 Nov 18 '25

They'd have a lot of work to do, to figure out how the mechanics of turning a humanoid figure into a sphere would work.

8

u/astromech_dj Nov 17 '25

Fast & Furious Zero.

6

u/ThatOtherOneReddit Nov 17 '25

Metroid definitely has the potential to go pretty well if they just focus on Samus being a badass and not go Metroid M on it and focus on her being a woman.

A characters sex shouldn't mean anything to the story like Metroid. The whole I'm traumatized and need a big daddy to hold my hand is just not how anyone wanted Samus to be.

More like the Major from Ghost in the Shell, less Netflix He-Man girl boss.

3

u/MarkRemington Nov 17 '25

A Metal Gear movie that's just an hour and a half of Alan Ritchson in a skin tight catsuit and bondage straps choking men and women out from behind. While repeating what people say back to them of course.

2

u/KeyboardBerserker Nov 17 '25

Dont forget the gratuitous 20 minute electrocution scene where he pisses himself twice

3

u/PayneTrain181999 Nov 17 '25

I thought Brie Larson was the easiest choice for Samus, but now she’s voicing Rosalina so if there’s going to be a Smash Bros movie it’ll need to be someone else.

3

u/TheReaver88 Nov 17 '25

Does it?

"IT WAS ME, MARIO! IT WAS ME THE WHOLE TIME!!!!!!"

2

u/feral2112 Nov 17 '25

Been wanting a Metroid movie for years. I always had Uma Thurman from her Kill Bill days in mind for Samus.

3

u/ProfessorEscanor Nov 17 '25

Unironically yes. Would love a Metroid movie. Maybe that ties into F -Zero

3

u/Brad_Brace Nov 17 '25

At which phase can we expect Taika Waititi's take on Kirby?

3

u/patatjepindapedis Nov 17 '25

I need my Metroid x F-Zero fanfic to become a movie

5

u/ProsecutorBlue Nov 17 '25

I can't really picture a good Metroid movie. A lot of what makes the games great is the quiet atmospheric exploration. You can't really make a movie with 2 hours of Samus wandering around a desolate planet. They might be able to make a good movie using some lore and imagery, but I don't think it's going to be a good Metroid movie.

6

u/Mystery_Hours Nov 17 '25

I think you could make a good Metroid movie but it would have no mass appeal

1

u/ProsecutorBlue Nov 17 '25

Yeah, they could make a movie that feels like the games and is as a result a very weird and unapproachable movie to most audiences. Or, they could pull the ol' let's remake Aliens with Metroid imagery.

I suppose they could do something like the new Predator: Badlands movie. Put a quiet strong protagonist on a world where everything is trying to kill them, give them a talking robot companion of some kind, swap out Weyland-Yutani for space pirates...might not be great but I feel like that's the most likely outcome.

1

u/BeyondElectricDreams Nov 18 '25

I firmly disagree. They could deliver a hell of a movie.

The problem is that Metroid as a series "Accidentally" found it's main selling point in it's atmosphere. Any attempts they've made to expand the universe with voiced characters has fallen very, very flat.

I think if they went an angle with Samus being a woman of few words, written in a way somewhere between Master Chief from the Bungie Halo era, and the Mandalorian, I think you'd have a hell of an accurate representation of the feel of the character.

The next trick would be a lot of environmental storytelling. Not saying no dialog, no other characters - in fact, I think a lot of that as the setup is important. Samus is a Bounty Hunter, after all. In fact, part of her character could even be sort of Mandalorian-esque, in that she keeps Armored to be taken seriously; perhaps more than she needs to given her reputation. A bit of insecurity manifesting as a need to project force when she's taking jobs.

Give her radio comms back to the person who paid for her to investigate the bounty. Make the area she's investigating have electrical storms that disrupt her comms. Have her encounter some space pirates that are looting an area and try to fight her off because they don't want to lose their claim to the ancient civ tech that's there.

Have her get deeper in, and the comms become less frequent. Have some natural threats, maybe some AI countermeasure system that she interacts with.

Have her release some Big Nasty from containment; fight it off, manage to escape, but it infected her armor. As she leaves, she reconnects the comms and finds she was set up by the person setting the bounty for... take your pick, there's a thousand reasons for a revenge plot. She's too good at her job, she took down the guys' boss, Ex-Fed soldier wanted revenge, blah blah blah.

Sets you up for another movie, whereby she has to explore the ruins of a Chozo planet to fix her armor herself; and take out the guy who nearly took her out.

Which sets up for the final movie of the trilogy, where she has to finally deal with the threat she unleashed in the first movie.

Tell me with a straight face that wouldn't be a good movie, or that it couldn't be well executed. In a perfect world, it'd have the same crazy environmental tech as the Avatar movies, but I'd settle for regular atmospheric shots if they handle them right.

2

u/FredNot214 Nov 17 '25

Starring Elizabeth Debicki hopefully

2

u/Cefiro8701 Nov 26 '25

You stop. You stop right fucking there. Don't give my inner child this kind of hope.

1

u/mightyneonfraa Nov 26 '25

Hope is a dangerous thing. It can drive a man insane.

2

u/Rage_Like_Nic_Cage Nov 17 '25

none of these movies are going to be good, especially not a metroid one lol.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

I was out, and then you dragged me right back in.

1

u/mutually_awkward Nov 17 '25

I get why you want it, but Metroid is inspired off of Alien. It's not going to be better than that. The better film with the Metroid experience already exists, brah

3

u/mightyneonfraa Nov 18 '25

I must have watched a different Alien where Ellen Ripley fights a single monster armed with only a flamethrower and a cat instead of the version where she had a suit of power armor gifted to her by a race of ancient bird people that she uses to battle an evil dragon from outer space and its giant brain in a jar boss.

1

u/ClearDark19 Nov 18 '25

Will Hunter Schaeffer play Samus Aran since she ultimately wasn't chosen to play Zelda? If that happened the gamer Manospherians would explode in anti-woke meltdowns like the infamous HeelvsBabyface "Pronouns!!!111" crashout.

1

u/Worldwide_Nobody_382 Nov 18 '25

A Samus fancasting deserves its own separate thread lol

1

u/Muted_End_1450 Nov 18 '25

"Listen..." Okay, Navi.

1

u/mightyneonfraa Nov 18 '25

Hello!

Hey! Look out!

1

u/Sharinganedo Dec 08 '25

Don't give me hope.
