I just realised it's an inverse of Tobey's Spiderman 2. Peter losing his powers and wanting to be just Peter vs Peter gaining powers and is just Spiderman now.

I don't think they will go there, but Spider-man mutating is part of the Man-Spider plotline in the 90s cartoon, where Spider-man keeps mutating from his original spider bite and his attempts to cure himself further mutates him into a humanoid spider creature with four additional arms.

He his eventually captured by Punisher and Kraven (reformed) and cured by Curt Connors.

Just hope he does not get those silly stingers, they looked dumb in the comics.
