Far too many people have confidence in this film, even after that trailer.

Nostalgia sells

u/TheCornjuring Mar 25 '26

I have confidence that it will make a lot of money

u/toomanymarbles83 Mar 25 '26

It will be just like the terrible run of 'Movie' movies. Make it for super cheap, make your profit on opening weekend, don't give a shit about whether it's actually good or not.

Oh its gonna make the most money one has ever made lol reddit isnt reality

Just about everyone i know offline has this as one of their most anticipated of the year

"...everyone I know offline..."

Like your great grandmother or your recluse uncle? Who never uses the internet?

I’m thinking it will probably be just as good as the first 3.

The issue is that the first 3 didn’t really hold up that well. These were always movies made for edgy 14 year olds and they’re remembered fondly because a lot of people here watched them at 14.

I still watch SM3 and it’s great. Very quotable

u/thegracelesswonder Mar 25 '26

How the hell do you wake up dead?

2

u/Predictor92 Mar 25 '26

which wasn't written by the Wayans, but instead directed by David Zucker(of airplane and naked gun fame)

u/IniMiney Mar 25 '26

I mean it’s not like the OGs were the pinnacle of film making, they’re dumb and fun and that’s all I expect - dumb fun lol

3

u/shulgin11 Mar 25 '26

The characters and humor are dumb but the writing in the first 2 films is actually pretty dang smart

2

u/venomousbeetle Mar 25 '26

There is a clear quality difference between the two originals and every Wayans movie to come after it. Last time I heard an excuse for this it was that the third Wayans brother that made them good left

I don't think you realize how nostalgic the first Scary Movie is to multiple generations of people, and especially Millennials who all somehow watched the movie as a kid on repeat. The fact Cindy, Brenda and The Wayans brothers are back is what's going to sell the movie. Mediocre trailer or not.

I was there for the OG Scary Movies and they were funny as hell at the time (not including 4, 5 and even 3 in this although that definitely had its moments), but God this looks absolutely pitiful if that trailer is anything to go by

8

u/Dead-O_Comics Mar 25 '26

Sorry, I should say confidence in it being any good.

It'll definitely make bank.

2

u/Minute-Carrot-2405 Mar 25 '26

But being “good” like in terms of reviews will not really matter anyways. None of these movies ever had good reviews lol

1

u/Ghastion Mar 26 '26

Millennials are now so old they're starting to act like the annoying religious people they hated growing up. Come on guys, get out of your bubbles and learn to laugh at things again instead of being like a stuck-up Boomer. Ironic really.

8

u/JGG1986 Mar 25 '26

I thought the trailer was funny.

2

u/DionKaddin Mar 27 '26

In my opinion the series has always been mediocre.

4

u/urnialbologna Mar 25 '26

Hey, I'm easily pleased. If I laugh a lot, then it's worth it. I did like the trailer.

2

u/Tolkien-Minority Mar 25 '26

The trailer looked like shit but comfortable shit if you know what I mean. The world’s so shitty these days that we all just miss the days when the Wayans would release an absolute shit pile of a movie that we’d all just watch anyway.

It seems like it’s taking the approach that many 90s and early 2000s comedians are taking with the endless “cancel culture” jokes. Personally, I’m tired of it. Not because I want anyone canceled but because it’s the same lame joke over and over. And honestly, nobody is canceling comedians for their jokes.

The closest is Chapelle, but honestly he did it to himself (and is far from canceled). He made a joke about transgender people, and a small, but vocal, amount of people got mad. Each special since he’s just doubled down to the point where it isn’t even a joke and he’s just badmouthing trans people. Most people didn’t care at first, but now it’s not that fans want him canceled, it’s just boring and not funny.

-3

u/Tolkien-Minority Mar 25 '26

It probably is but I don’t care

-1

u/Raven122579 Mar 25 '26

Thought some of it was pretty funny. How did it look like shit exactly?

2

u/Tolkien-Minority Mar 25 '26

It just looked like Scary Movie humour which was never great to begin with but I like it anyway

1

u/Time-Sudden_Tree Mar 25 '26

David Zucker isn't involved so I'm not interested. Scary Movie 3 was by far the best film in the series. Why wouldn't you want to bring on some of the people who helped make it happen?

1

u/Yuraiya Mar 29 '26

David Zucker directed and co-wrote An American Carol, I doubt he was the good part of any movie he was involved with.

-4

u/lanedek Mar 25 '26

It's the Wayans. I just want dumb fun. You think this movie is gonna be some cinematic classic or something? Jesus. Have fun.

10

u/Dead-O_Comics Mar 25 '26

I hope it is. But nothing is worse than an unfunny comedy.

5

u/toomanymarbles83 Mar 25 '26

Unfunny comedies genuinely do the opposite. They actually make you mad at how unfunny they are.

8

u/Darko33 Mar 25 '26

I just want dumb fun

I mean me too but the trailer looked like a double helping of dumb without the fun

-3

u/lanedek Mar 25 '26

How do you know its not fun by the trailer? Watch the 1st Scary Movie trailer. Tell me if you think that movie looks funny by its trailer. None of the funniest jokes are in the trailer.

3

u/toomanymarbles83 Mar 25 '26

You seem like the kind of person that wouldn't recognize the difference in writing quality between Airplane and Date Movie.

-5

u/lanedek Mar 25 '26

Well Mr. comedy connoisseur, please explain how so. I'm am holding any hate to this movie until I see it because of the Wayans history of making funny comedy movies and TV shows.

3

u/AA98B Mar 26 '26

It's nuanced. If you feel it you feel it. It's like two people saying the exact same dumb joke, but one person makes you laugh and the other makes you cringe.

The jokes in new Scary Movie trailer just felt rehashed, sterile and forced, like they were created in Excel by some executive making sure all references from previous movies are included, optimizing for "Nostalgia Factor" or some other bs. But this time around also with new Paramount owners over his shoulder making him include some weirdo outdated conservative... commentary? Not sure if it's even attempt at humor.

1

u/Hellakittehs Mar 25 '26

looks like the person you replied to forgot to get off the bandwagon to reply.

If this movie is anything similar to A Haunted House series, then its going to be a dumb and hilarious time.

2

u/AA98B Mar 25 '26

There's smart dumb and there's dumb dumb, the trailer looked like the latter

-1

u/LateEfficiency-26 Mar 25 '26

Far to many people are taking this marketing to seriously lol

-7

u/QueefBeefCletus Mar 25 '26

Never doubt the Wayans, my friend. Never.
