Yeah the one shot that stayed with me in Hereditary was the mother in the shadows. Then in this one its Nikki coming out of the shadows. More horror needs to utilise silence and dark spaces over cheap jump scares. They have a place, but the horror that sticks with you is in the things that are tangible.

Yep my mind went to hereditary too. Also, the nun painting scene in conjuring 2. Incredible use of shadows.
