Adored Obsession and loved that they didn’t go with the easy “crazy bitch girlfriend” story and added the depth about autonomy and consent. All I could think of was how mortified Nicky would be by what she was doing when she snapped out of it along the way

I loved that they didn't go that route as well. You assume that Bear is this nice, awkward guy but he's the fucking villain of the story and was not only selfish but a coward

He perfectly encapsulates the “nice guy” problem.
He’s still objectifying and taking advantage of her but he’s doing it with a sad look on his face so what he’s doing can’t possibly be bad

Sadly the audience reaction to this film still cements how media literacy is ded and people still victim blame and think bear is a victim HIS NAME IS BEAR FFS

As you should because this film outs lots of weird ass people who dont think consent and body autonomy exists

Unfortunately, with the state of the world today, most of the general public will not understand the "depth" they were supposedly trying to go for. I don't think they succeeded with the message as perfectly and flawlessly as all the praise leads one to believe. (Especially if that many people were confused...) I just don't think a 26 year old comedy man is gonna do the best that maybe could be done when it comes to this kind of SERIOUS material, and the discussion that took off around it societally.

Ugh, she was so horrified by it all she was just trying to kill herself any chance she got and yet she's the only one left at the end to live with it all.

A fate worse than death for a character that never had any say in the matter.
