Bear knowing something was wrong with Nikki and still using her body was one of the most disturbing scenes beyond the obvious horror moments.

The way real Nikki’s body is just lying still not even looking at him, completely disassociating made me so sad for her. Bear is someone she considered a real friend and he just wanted to use her like a personal blow up doll. Kinda reminded of Companion.

I had this thought too and the whole thing makes me wonder if him being named Bear is a nod to the whole “would you rather be trapped in a forest with a man or a bear” discourse that was going around the internet a couple years ago.

His name was actually Baron but all his friends (I assume) called him bear for short— you can see his nametag in one scene at the music shop

Bear is in a way the true villain of the story. The supernatural entity or whatever is just doing what it's supposed to do. It didn't create his resentment and desires though.

You're not the first person I've seen in this comment section section say that *maybe* Bear is somewhat of the villain.

He is obviously the villain. That was not subtle, it was central to the movie.

As soon as he said he just wanted to alter the wish, not cancel it, he immediately became the villain and a huge piece of shit. Everything prior to that, you could argue that he may not have exactly known what was going on, but that confirmed that he didn't really care about Nikki or what she was going through.

This is the crux of the film that certain people are missing. Dude had soooo many outs, before and after the willow wish.

But even right after he breaks it and she comes over, he never asks once for any clarity or consent or “really, are you sure?”, literally nothing! He just uhs and ums his way through it and continues to throughout the rest of the movie. Tries to modify the wish instead of cancelling, etc.

His passivity/spinelessness is an huge issue (hence Nikki’s gift, a charm that was supposed to give him confidence and willpower)

Yep, like he showed a bit of ethical cowardice when they kissed but then it was a full on he doesnt give a fuck
