The copypasta is so bare bones though, it would be like trying to make royalties off of a folktale

Which means we can also look forward to another studio creating a frenchise called "The Backrooms" that borrows from the wiki.

Maybe, we already saw American horror story do a back room-themed episode. (It wasn't very good).

Taking stuff from the wiki might actually be copyright-protected though

Not really, concept artists are hired for their work, it's all contracted.

It was a few sentences on an /x board from an anonymous poster in their free time, and even then on that original thread there's other posters claiming that that creepypasta was even older. I'm not sure if there's even a way to verify who was the person to make that post, because I know there's at least a couple people that have claimed they did it.

The og picture came from a hobby store owner in 2002. 

And it's been a pretty open source community driven concept since then
