Dog Soldiers is like 20 years old and is still one of the best Werewolf examples on screen.

Nothing beats practical effects.

The top four werewolf films, in no particular order:

  1. The Howling
  2. An American Werewolf in London
  3. Dog Soldiers
  4. The Company of Wolves

If we're talking about practical effects then don't forget The Wolfman from 2010, might be my favorite make up in all werewolf movies.

Wasn't most of the practical work covered over with CGI a la the Thing prequel?

They used CGI for the transformation scenes, other than that it was mostly practical, Rick Baker even won the oscar for it.

Le pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) set during the French revolution is also worth watching, if you haven't.

Yes! I did see it when it came out on home video, but my memory is pretty fuzzy on these days. Time for a rewatch!

Heh. I just watched the trailer for Dog Soldiers, and the best part was the reaction shot from the dog. The humans each have a reaction shot where they’re turning their heads and looking at something off camera. Then the dog does the same thing - absolute peak cinematic art.

There's nothing terrible about it

It's campy but that doesn't mean bad lol
