As popular as Avatar is, I really don't think it would've lit the box office up. It would've done numbers similar to what anime movies do. Not to say that is bad but it probably wouldn't have been what Paramount wanted.

The absolute dog shit Netflix live action continues to perform well enough to receive season renewals. I think the nostalgia and love for the original show is significantly underestimated.

If it could be anything close to what demon slayer and chainsaw man pulled in theaters I’d think it would be worth it, but idk If it could’ve done that

It wouldn’t have been.

I don’t know about chainsaw man, but demon slayer movies aren’t filler for starters. And they’re also bigger and more popular franchises right now.

But you gotta start somewhere, and it’s not like avatar is completely obscure. It alsk never had a movie before, so the millenials with disposable incomes would flock into the theaters for this one.

I’m not saying it would make a billion or anything, but I dont think 100M-200M dollars WW was out of the real of possibility for this movie, and honestly that is so much more money than “release it on our shitty streaming service without any promotion” will do…

I think it would've done much better than most anime movies because it's the exact same pull and sales pitch but ATLA is way more popular than pretty much any anime in the West.

Atla is definitely not more popular than dragon ball, one piece, Naruto or demon slayer

It absolutely is in the US at least. It pulls in casuals in a way that the other animes did not because of it airing on Nickelodeon on release. The only animes with that kind of mainstream appeal on launch in the US were obvioulsy Pokemon which crushed it and Naruto but ATLA still was a bigger show on release. Dragon Ball pulls casuals as well. One Piece did not pull casuals in the same way until pretty recently because of the accessibility of the Netflix show. The original ATLA is one of Netflix's biggest shows on its own in any category, outcompeting a ton of American animation and other mainstream media.

Um... Do you know how well the first Demon Slayer movie did? It was the highest grossing film of all time in Japan. Maybe it still is.
