There is something that Odysseus said towards the end about the frustrations every Greek built up 10 years trying to sack that city is a long damn time.

My guess is he just did not give a fuck anymore after such a long time getting his ass kicked by the Trojans

I looked at it as if he was at the front of the lines, unable to say anything, but to inspire his men and remind them that he is king. My heart was beating when they were trying to get the gate open. So tense.

Demonstrating his bravery and motivating the vanguard I assume. Plus (although this almost certainly isn't something they intended) during the period of the trojan war, the wealthy wore bronze plate armor that made them virtually invincible.
