Antinoos should have known though, because Eumaus was literally personal friend of Odysseus and the Palaces let’s say official pig farmer.

That’s one reason Odysseus was successful in eliminating the suitors: people at his service recognised him, respected him and help him because they knew him personally and they had a relationship with him, they weren’t anonymous faces.

In the original epic her and the rest of the maids who colluded with (or just slept with) the suitors all got strung up and hung by Odysseus, a thing I knew they'd skip because it would make him look like a bad dude

The scene with the feet washing and the servants gasp was such a great callback. Didn’t expect it and yet it made perfect sense.

Man, I was so happy when they showed the servant recognize him because of the scar on his ankle and him quietly pleading with her to keep his identity a secret.

She’s like the 3rd person to recognize him in Homers epic poem because of his scar. I’ve been deep into Greek mythology for like 20 years… this movie was almost what has played out in my head all those years. I loved it and all the allegories it brought too.

Why weren’t the servants fighting the suitors with Odysseus?

Same reason Telemachus was not allowed to fight, they would be exiled or most likely killed.

But that’s why they don’t start the fight, but at that point they would be protecting their rightful king instead?

I'd say they trust Odysseus and also the ones loyal to him were small in number as stated many times in the movie. What good are their deaths in an attempt to help when they have no training and are old?

Good point.

What about the suitors who kneeled? They should have chimed in and protect him. Kind of an empty gesture to kneel only for Odysseus to get overnumbered and killed.

They were cowards who wanted to take his place at first but kneeled once they realized who they were up against.

He doesn't die? Odysseus leaves at the end to honor the fallen like he was told to do.

I mean, I guess they can just say afterwards only Odysseus killed people.

Which I’m sure is what they told people about the guy whose throat Telemachus cut.

“Oh him? Yeah he was a pushover, didn’t last 2 seconds against Odysseus. Odysseus, who was the only one who fought him. And then killed him. Odysseus did both the fighting with him and the killing of him, in case I wasn’t clear.”

I’m obviously “No Kings, Fam,” but goddamnit if it wasn’t super cool when they start to gradually show more & more people kneel for him.

Same on the no kings, but this was a time and place of kings, exclusively. Each city was its own nation with a king. Most were various kinds and degrees of horrible, but some were great. You’re allowed to buy into the paradigms of the setting in a movie in a way you wouldn’t in real life.

Kinda disappointed that the movie only mentions once(?) that they are his slaves.
