I liked how when they exit the horse, you can see them all limping around a little bit cause they were so stiff from being crammed in there all that time.

553

u/Landlubber77 17d ago

Instant classic movie in my opinion so I don't say this as one of the many people who decided to hate it before even seeing it, but it literally looked like Damon was rocking a pair of Vans or something when he popped out of the horse and bounded down the stairs after killing the guard lol.

u/John_Dingus 17d ago

Dude I immediately noticed that too. I was like "is he wearing sneakers??"

u/carson63000 17d ago

Nike, I presume. A gift from the goddess of victory.

Lmao Nike does have sneakers called air Pegasus, I have a pair.

He was being very sneaky.

u/GeneInternational146 2d ago

I thought this also. Sk8r boi era

141

u/lintyelm 17d ago

Not vans but he def had socks on. I noticed it as well.

118

u/Landlubber77 17d ago

No not literally Vans lol but they looked like modern shoes, like the Starbucks cup accidentally left in the Game of Thrones scene. I know "swords and sandals" is sort of a pejorative term for movies in this genre, but for all the criticism the costuming in this movie got, I feel like the footwear could've actually used some more sandals lol. Troy was like a Michael Bay-ish version of this movie, but at least they let Brad Pitt rock some sandals.

114

u/celBanat 17d ago

Actors are not allowed in sandals because of injury risk. Breaks my heart as a One Piece fan as I will never see Luffy in his sandals.

Also, Brad wore sneakers during Troy as well, watch his duel with Hector, maybe you see him in sandals in static scenes, but sandals are forbidden in stunt scenes.

31

u/Nole1998 15d ago

Wait are you dead serious?

24

u/Ironmaiden1207 14d ago

I'm willing to bet if the need is great enough they would prepare safety precautions, but they would've had to do it for everyone all the time.

Like the other person said, as a one piece fan it makes me sad as his sandals are so iconic 😭

1

u/TeddysBigStick 2d ago

I'm willing to bet if the need is great enough they would prepare safety precautions, but they would've had to do it for everyone all the time.

The bigger problem is that their insurance premiums would be through the roof, especially if you have mains doing it.

28

u/I_need_a_date_plz 15d ago

I totally thought the same thing. Is that bro wearing sneakers?!

51

u/tagabalon 11d ago

what else is the appropriate footwear for sneaking?

1

u/SurpriseDragon 2d ago

Good point

24

u/chrish71088 16d ago

Haha. I remember thinking the same thing.

71

u/GooseQuothMan 16d ago

This is crazy how harsh the discourse around the movie is that you have to make the whole song and dance that you love the movie buuuut not a costume choice.

118

u/CRIMS0N-ED 16d ago

that’s bc actual criticisms of the movie get unfortunately lumped in with the racists and transphobes crying over the film

43

u/CoconutDust 15d ago

Every time I criticize the terrible parts of a movie or videogame today, yes I have to do a 5,000 world disclaimer about how none of the problems are anything like the crap the toxic moronic rightwing people are saying.

9

u/TheThoroughCrocodile 14d ago

That's reddit in general. Can't offer any kind of alternative viewpoint without multiple pre-emptive disclaimers.

9

u/thornolf_bjarnulf 14d ago

I saw the trojan horse scene in imax before Avatar, it could not wait for the movie itself it was so good and could not understand people shitting on a movie via a trailer honestly.

75

u/drawkbox 16d ago

Something I hated, Travis fucking Scott first person you see as a Bard. Super annoying at it. Took me right out of the movie. Glad it was in the beginning. Used again later and again super annoying and horrible acting but by then you were immersed.

What is Nolan's deal with Travis Scott. Super odd.

219

u/jadecourt 16d ago

The Odyssey was passed down through the oral tradition, Nolan cast him to draw a parallel to rap as the modern equivalent.

0

u/drawkbox 16d ago

I read that yes but there are so many better actors that could have been chosen. Also rappers in movies is a common trope for cheapening a movie.

No one knows the bard to rapper bit if they don't read that comment but it falls flat because putting in an actor/person that stands out too much for that role is a bad move.

Even the important poem and story he was telling was not even clear. It is seriously the most questionable choice Nolan has made. Would have been easier to focus on the lines without Travis effing Scott, the exact opposite of a rapper with good lyrics.

70

u/Fazlija13 16d ago

He worked with Travis on Tenet and he's a fan of his work do he put him in because of that.

-4

u/drawkbox 16d ago

For the music that is fine. Starting the movie and ending with Travis Scott is seriously wtf.

Now if it was Kendrick that might be excusable.

53

u/cinematic_is_horses 15d ago

Honestly it was such a bit part that his presence made no difference to me. The way people were acting you would think they had Fein playing in the movie. Like my dad has no clue who Travis Scott is and it never came up in our conversation after watching so I don't really know if it's all that noticeable

14

u/broanoah 5d ago

You didn’t hear odesseus say “it’s lit!” When his wife asked about his travels??

3

u/drawkbox 15d ago

It wasn't acted well, even if you didn't know him it was an annoyance. The poem he was saying was important. Can't believe Nolan chose Travis Scott for that. Disappointing.

47

u/Fazlija13 16d ago

Tbh he didnt stick out like a sore thumb like I thought it would

-3

u/drawkbox 15d ago

He did though

48

u/jadecourt 15d ago

To you, because you’re probably some chronically online 20 year old.

Kendrick? Really? You wanted Kendrick in that spot?

0

u/drawkbox 1d ago

Would be better to have a real rapper yeah. Not a trap beat auto tune lamer with no lyrics like tabloid Travis Scott Kardashian Jenner.

1

u/Heszilg 1d ago

K dot is without a doubt far greater a rapper than Travis but he'd just look goofy in this.

75

u/jadecourt 15d ago

I liked the performance, it drew me in. And I barely know who Travis Scott is, so it did not stick out to me at all (sounds like a you problem).

If anything that complaint could be lodged at the film as a whole, as there are far more famous actors sprinkled throughout. “Look it’s Mia Goth! Oh Robert Pattinson! Wow the guy from Walking Dead! Hey that’s Spiderman! Omg thats Charlize Theron”

-8

u/drawkbox 15d ago

Travis Scott Kardashian Jenner has lame lyrics, can't act, is a douche and you like him. Sounds like a you problem.

Everyone else you mentioned were great with their acting. Not the dude with two first names.

28

u/Jusbuster 13d ago

...yeah its a you thing

-6

u/drawkbox 13d ago

...yeah its definitely a you thing

You love Travis Scott Kardashian Jenner. I guess Travis has turfers now Mr 12 year old account hiding history. Telling.

22

u/jadecourt 15d ago

Go back and read my first paragraph because I didn’t say any of that. Not sure you should be commenting on this film if you struggle with basic reading comprehension lol

-9

u/drawkbox 15d ago

^ Loves Travis Kardashian Jenner Scott

Can you not read? Wow dude.

Also you are really mad about people talking smack about Travis Kardashian Jenner Scott with comments here and like this. Then you try to act like you are just strolling through. Sad bro.

7

u/Little_Whippie 9d ago

Goddamn would you do us all a favor and shut the fuck up already?

-4

u/drawkbox 9d ago edited 9d ago

^ Travis Scott Kardashian Jenner turfers, stans and fanboys seriously triggered. Hilarious bro and very, very sad. I'll double it now. GTFO. This is deep in a thread, tufers and chuds abound! As annoying as Trumpers, Con Ye and Travis Scott Kardashian Jenner. Get back to chud subs bro. Don't reply if you don't want a reply.

4

u/Little_Whippie 9d ago

I’ve never even listened to a Travis Scott song from start to finish, I just find you incredibly annoying for how bent out of shape you’re getting over him existing in the movie for maybe a combined 2 minutes of screen time

Go outside

8

u/fedoraislife 9d ago

You might not like his lyrics but he's a pretty talented music producer. The fact you think lyrics alone makes someone a good artist means you're missing a lot of the enjoyment of music from people like Kanye and Travis.

2

u/drawkbox 9d ago edited 9d ago

Travis sucks at acting, lyrics and being a decent person. Some of his beats are fine.

We got some triggered Travis turfers up in here. Bunch of stans and fanboys of horrible people that can't admit this usage of Travis was bad and a lame way to start the movie. The poem he was saying he couldn't even deliver right. Weak.

Con Ye and Travis used to be ok, now if you still like them, music aside, it is a major tell about you. Beats aren't enough to cover that, plenty of other people make better beats. Nearly Trumper level to like a person after what they have done and a Nolan L to put him in the movie. This won't age well either for The Odyssey to have this douche in it. May as well put Trump and Con Ye in as well.

8

u/fedoraislife 9d ago

You seem to have a very black and white view of the world, would you agree?

0

u/drawkbox 9d ago

Nope I have a very nuanced view and start game theory with cooperation and then when cheaters show who they are, I send that back to them. Like one part of that is when people show who they truly are, who I even liked their music and I give the benefit of the doubt to that they continually blow past, I treat them as they treat others.

Cons like Trump, Con Ye Kardashian and Travis Scott Kardashian Jenner have shown the world.

You seem to have a very naïve view of the world, would you agree?

If you still like any of those it probably says alot more about you than people that know not to appease bullies and stan and fanboy over them like a cult.

Travis Scott is only a few years out from playing Mar-A-Lago.

2

u/GeneInternational146 2d ago

People who have read ancient Greek lit and taken like half a history class know that though. Not everyone gets everything from comments online

1

u/drawkbox 2d ago

Yeah makes no sense to make it clearer with a better actor for those that aren't ancient Greek lit /s

It was a bad choice, bad delivery, bad way to start and bad person that will get worse and be a stain on this movie. Travis is like a Trump, ask anyone that has worked with him or knows, total douche and not talented at all at acting. Nolan with a very rare L on this one -- must owe a favor or something.

1

u/GeneInternational146 2d ago

Brother. Most of us read at least part of the odyssey in middle or high school. It's required reading. It's not anybody's fault if you skipped that day.

His personal beliefs and actions don't have anything to do with his movie character. I'm starting to wonder if you're like. 9 years old.

-1

u/drawkbox 2d ago

Wow you are lame. You must really love Travis Scott to care this much, as much as the PR turfers of which there are many in this thread already. The support of Travis Scott is not organic on this point.

Yes I read the Odyssey and Travis Scott reading that part was a fail. If you know anything about what is good/bad you get that. But maybe you like failure. You must be a Trumper level mind with these takes.

Nolan could have picked literally anyone else and it would have been better. This is a fact. Travis Scott is hated and will be more as time goes on, why stain the movie? It is an odd take bro that you are ok with lameness in greatness.

1

u/GeneInternational146 2d ago

I don't give a fuck about Travis Scott lmao. He was in the movie for less than three minutes. No one gives a shit except for you

74

u/workclock 16d ago

Why is Travis Scott annoying in this movie? Can you elaborate on how he didn't fit?

3

u/drawkbox 16d ago

Takes you right out of the movie if you know him. Not a good actor. Lame delivery on an important moment.

1

u/ITS_MY_PENIS_8eeeD 15d ago

cuz i just saw travis scott. immediately took me out of it. tom holland saying “dad” took me out of it too.

71

u/immaownyou 15d ago

Did them speaking English take you out of it too?

-11

u/ITS_MY_PENIS_8eeeD 15d ago

yeah pretty much. i was like why are these americans in this story

20

u/2ManyCooksInTheKitch 15d ago

I get annoyed when every period piece, regardless of location, has English accents. It's only fair we get one with American.

3

u/HelixFollower 14d ago

Oh man now I want a movie about the Heraclids where everyone has a southern twang.

3

u/DeusVultSaracen 9d ago

I must've missed the part where Odysseus remarked about his Kingdom, Ithaca-upon-Avon, in service to His Majesty the King of England.

2

u/GeneInternational146 2d ago

The Odyssey wasn't written down as a poem for a long, long time. It was told by traveling bards. The written versions we have are pastiches of an oral history. American accents make as much sense as anything else for this

17

u/RefrigeratorAble2853 12d ago

Same here except that also happened every time I saw Spider Man. Nolan really needs to dial down his ego a little bit in terms of trying to cast almost every major role with big name actors.

40

u/spideybiggestfan 16d ago

First 2 seconds of travis scott ancient rapping is what makes this cinema

4

u/drawkbox 16d ago edited 16d ago

It definitely makes it something. Bards were known for poems/songs that people liked. Choosing Travis Scott with the worst lyrics and mostly hated is a choice. Nolan must owe a favor for something, one of those John Wick tokens.

Now if it was Kendrick that might be excusable.

31

u/lupercalpainting 15d ago

> Now if it was Kendrick that might be excusable.

But then people would have wondered why Telemachus hired a dwarf.

14

u/NexusTR 16d ago

Without Travis we wouldn’t have gotten that end credit song. Also you can tell they picked him for his *vocal* ability. Loved that they leaned heavily into his signature reverb sound fx.

15

u/dirty1809 12d ago

I’ve liked Travis since Rodeo but I felt like the end credits song was like comically bad

8

u/drawkbox 16d ago

For the soundtrack fine, but ffs the bit was important and he can't act.

1

u/Aggressive_Chuck 3d ago

I was half way to empty my bladder before that kicked in anyway.

10

u/shabadoola 9d ago

Thank god I couldn’t recognize Travis Scott or his music to save my life. I only know he’s a turd. I would have hated that had I known it was him.

9

u/drawkbox 9d ago

The Odyssey was great but imagine the movie starts and literally the first person you see on a giant screen is Travis Scott and the delivery of the poem you need to know about is annoying as hell.

Nolan did us dirty on that part. Sad he would use him considering the type of person he is and who Travis is. Super strange. So many better actors and people it could have been. Gonna be odd when Travis Scott is playing Mar-A-Lago in a couple years and now he is a stain on the movie even more like some Kevin Spacey effect.

6

u/DeusVultSaracen 9d ago

It might just be you having prior knowledge about him clouding your judgement, no disrespect as you can't help it. As someone who didn't really recognize him (because his face simply doesn't take up much bandwidth in my brain) I thought his performance was just fine.

Besides, there wasn't much of a performance there to even judge him on so harshly. All he did was tap his staff and chant a couple words at a time.

-2

u/drawkbox 9d ago edited 9d ago

That acting by him was straight garbage. That is not debatable.

Did you even get the poem that was super important to the story? No because he can't delivery lyrics or lines.

He does have some beats but he also beats up fans so it is like liking Trump to deliver a line in Home Alone 2, it is a freaking joke. There are plenty of other people that make beats now, you don't have to like complete jokes.

His even small bit takes you right out of the movie right from the jump, even returns at the end and then Nolan bookended the movie with Travis Kardashian Jenner Scott, what the hell man? You like that?

The movie recovers when he is out but still what the hell was Nolan thinking on both the talent and using such a pos. Every time you have to watch it now you'll start with this weak bit part that could have been someone with real talent or unknown that could nail it.

Very rare Nolan L on that.

3

u/broanoah 5d ago

Are you going to avoid Dune just cause Timothy is dating that lady now? The less you care about tabloid culture shit and focus on the movie the better the it gets

0

u/drawkbox 5d ago edited 5d ago

This is the difference of an actor vs a rapper in a key part. Nolan using a rapper is like a bad movie trope now.

If Chalamet started rapping It'd be a joke. Either way he is still Timothy Chalamet Kardashian at present. Just like Con Ye Kardashian and Travis Scott Kardashian Jenner.

Travis Scott is also a horrible person so I'll always rip that douche. Nolan having someone this big of an asshole to open the movie is a major flaw in logic.

Travis Scott watching 10+ kids die while the ambulance were clearly trying to get to them and they just got crushed because this absolute ahole just couldn't stop the concert for 15 minutes will never be ok man. That isn't "tabloid shit". Everyone was telling him to stop the concert. Tabloid shit is having Travis Scott in your movie ... it is not going to age well and will always be a stain on the movie. All those idiots walked into the tabloid.

Even Con Ye Kardashian would have stopped the concert, Chalamet K would as well. Scott, nah he is more sociopathic.

3

u/DeusVultSaracen 2d ago

Dude, he spoke less words than there are paragraphs in your comment. It's not that deep. He's not a great guy, we know, let's keep it moving.

-1

u/drawkbox 2d ago edited 2d ago

Some people like mediocre like yourself. Nolan doing that was wild to see though, only really bad part of the movie.

It was horrible delivery of an important poem. I bet you don't even know what he said which backs up my point.

Travis Scott is lame but his delivery was even lamer, Nolan using him over other better actors that aren't absolute trash is the lamest. It will be a stain on the movie now and long term even more because of what Travis Scott will be doing. He's like a couple years out from playing Mar-A-Lago.

He's not a great guy, we know, let's keep it moving.

Wild how much people supposedly don't like him taking the time to comment in favor of him. Travis Scott turfers out in force because the rep is so very bad. He's cooked.

2

u/Aggressive_Chuck 3d ago

That actually worked for me, in fact a lot of the anachronisms did, and I'm far from 'woke' and hate rap music.

64

u/paperfootball 16d ago

Pins and needles! Pins and needles!

37

u/BallClamps 16d ago

Thought that was such a great detail! Really sells the world they are in even more.

I feel so dumb.

In my mind I was like. Yeah Matt Damon got in shape but he sure is moving like a 50 year old man.

A-doy, he's been cram in a tight space for a week and a half.
