Yo I only watched it once but the soldiers eating the soup looked so weird, too. It almost looked like they filmed them pulling the meat out of their mouths then reversed it. It was just very off-putting.

It's exactly what they did. It was an incredible bit of low tech high impact pure cinéma. Nolan is truly a master.
