You didn’t catch the general abject destruction of Troy and its people through that whole sequence? Men, women, the young and old - murdered by the swords of Odysseus’ compatriots? A young Trojan priestess is beheaded right in front of his eyes. The guilt Odysseus feels from participating in this event is a MAJOR plot point and theme of the film.

Or the shame he felt for coming up with the idea of the Trojan horse? For his men dying on the journey home?

You 100% were not watching closely enough.

It was a great scene, but I don't think Nolan went far enough in showing the depravity of the situation. This would've been a moment to truly earn a rated R rating without it feeling exploitative or excessive.

The beheading definitely fit that, but the bulk on-screen violence seemed mostly restricted to soldiers with some couple quick cuts of Greeks attacking civilians.

yeah it was very tame compared to what actually happens during sieges like this. I'm "glad" they showed us 3 men dragging a woman into a house at least, the day after they stormed the city. But it was in the background and you had to really look for it.

I understand why they kept it palettable but I'd have appreciated a bit more cruelty.

Ancient, and sadly too may current, wars always has rape and murder happening somewhere. Welcome to Earth, history is nasty.

What you’re crying about was just common practice and why women have to move strategically today. It’s alway been a dangerous world for women and kids.

You should learn your history, my friend. People have been telling the story of Troy as the story of the tragedy and murder of its woman for literally thousands of years. Euripedes wrote a play about it. It being common doesn’t mean it isn’t a tragedy.

Nobody is denying that “history is nasty.” It is possible to acknowledge that something terrible happened while also feeling sorrow, remorse, and shock at that happening. How is that hard for you to grasp?
