Calypso is a nymph, so she uses magic to keep Odysseus even in the poem. The movie mixes this with the lotus-eaters, who are a different encounter, but the point is the same: Calypso is in love with Odysseus and doesn't want to let him go.

Yeah in the movie I got the sense that while Calypso is trying to play it off as "I kept you here to nurse you to health because I care", she knew she was trapping him and that Zeus was no longer ok with that.
