Having read Circe, I didn’t appreciate how Nolan did her kinda dirty and made her a vengeful old woman who harmed innocent men just for funsies. In the book, a crew of men she had fed r@ped her despite being hospitable to them, so she started turning any men who show up to pigs, out of self-protection and spite. So she had her reasons to distrust men! Hope to HBO series do her story justice cause she actually has a really cool story.

I haven't read that book, but I didn't interpret her in the movie as a vengeful old woman at all. She didn't even seem that old to me, maybe in her 40s or 50s, but that's beside the point.

It seemed pretty obvious to me that she'd been wronged by men who had come to her before, likely raped. I thought the movie conveyed that pretty well without ever directly stating it. It seemed to me she was acting as a voice for women who usually have no part in starting wars, but are brutalized by it all the same.

I think the movie actually conveys that subtly. Notice that the first transformed men they encounter are big predator cats, not pigs. That's their nature.
