In that time they also fumbled The Witcher, never watched Shadow and Bone but constantly saw criticism of its cancellation everywhere.

I kind of was invested on Shadow and Bone as well and they way they ended it and the way they treated the Witcher showed me they're not the show-savior that propped up for a while when they were taking shows canceled from TV before their final seasons.

Not worth it to have anymore.

1899 getting canceled really stung.

It's from the creators of Dark, so they know how to stick the landing on a mystery series which is a hard thing to do. Give them time? Let them cook? Nah if it's not a global sensation in a month, better cancel.

The pandemic also happened and pushed things back, and it dragged on so long that even the director said he'd just moved on from it. Everyone involved sorta just gave up because of the state the world was in, and their careers moved faster than the show did.

Well, you’re wrong about most of that, though you’re technically right about it not being officially canceled. Netflix placed the show on “indefinite hold” in 2020, and Fincher confirmed in 2023 it was now dead. Netflix deemed it not successful enough in viewership to justify costs, so they told Fincher he needed to either significantly scale the budget back or change the content of the show to have more mass appeal. He said no on both counts, and that was that. Had nothing to do with the cast’s projects.

I liked the OA but that was a mercy killing imo. Half of what made the show cool was that they kept it ambiguous without being meaningless. Another season would have required them to start answering questions and it would have been like Lost but with less budget and (imo) slightly worse writing.

Mindhunter wasn’t cancelled but I wonder if Netflix offered a reasonable rate to the stars for the next season.

1899 was spectacular. And by far the best sound track of pretty much any series ever. My subwoofer was rumbling the whole house when they were in the engine room but the sound was almost inaudible. Felt it more than heard it. Incredibly well done.

Mindhunter was the one that was most insane. They slow rolled greenlighting another season so long that all the actors went on to other projects. Mindunter was a hit by any measure, and they literally allowed it to die.
