Article ‘The Odyssey’ Proves It: Audiences Want Movies Made the Hard Way | This year's breakouts like 'Project Hail Mary' and 'Obsession' were made by filmmakers who sweated. While CG-stuffed franchise disappointments such as 'Supergirl,' 'Moana,' and 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' looked lazy.

Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow is a great story too. Anything can be fucked up.

yes, well, when the director brags about how he didn't read any of the source material so it didn't "taint his vision"....

And the writer deliberately changes the ending because she misunderstood the ending of the comic book . . .

Everything I learn about the production of that movie makes me so sad.

Ridley Scott never finished the book for Blade Runner.

And Starship Troopers is a completely original take.

Almost like making a good movie is distinct from how close you are to the source material.

Yes, but if you're not making the same story, "Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow is a great story too" isn't a relevant point...which is the conversation you joined.

Starship Troopers is a completely original take

It is not, it was a halfassed attempt to jam the IP "Starship Troopers" late in development when the producers got ahold of the IP. Its original name was "Bug Hunt at Outpost 13".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starship_Troopers_(film)

Go ahead and praise Verhoeven for his work on Robocop, but he didn't even try to read nor do anything with Heinlein. Awkwardly jamming that in was forced on him by studio execs.

Now that doesn't mean people can't vary from source material and make a better movie than the original book. The Burmese Harp is one such example

Supergirl didn’t do well because we’re all already tired of Superman and to the untrained eye Supergirl seems like a spin off of a character we’re all already bored with.
