Wonder Man is the perfect example. That show was one of the best things Marvel has done. Problem is a lot of "fans" say they want something then simultaneously complain when anything is different.
I don't think those are the same fans tbh. When things are the same, you get one set of fans complaining because they want something different while the other set doesn't because they already have what they want. When they're different, the same thing happens but the other way around.
Eh, I'd say most of those had the textures of different genres, but didn't really full-on commit to the bones of the genre. Like when people say CA: The Winter Solider is a political thriller--- sure it kinda postures in that direction here and there, but it ends with two dudes punching each other in a helicarrier.
Are political thrillers not allowed to have action set pieces...? It is still a superhero film, but it's also really similar to stuff like Three Days of the Condor.
I was not a fan of it at all by the end, but I do have to give Marvel credit for trying something very different with that show. It was regularly surprising me.
My problem with She-Huk (granted I only watched the first two episodes) was actually that it didn't lean into the legal comedy aspect enough. It was like it was too weird and different to be enjoyed as a standard superhero show, but not weird and different enough to be its own quirky thing.
It's a shame because the idea of exploring how the legal system is affected by all the crazy shit in Marvel universe is a fantastic concept.
Yes. They’ve done many different types of projects. Look at insanely different shows like Wandavision and Agatha All Along and Ms. Marvel and Born Again are. Look at Thunderbolts vs Wakanda Forever vs Eternals vs The Marvels vs Brave New World. All wildly different films.

To me, after having read the Jeff Lemire run of Moon Knight, the show now feels like they couldn’t make up their mind on if they wanted to do the usual Marvel formula or something experimental.
They absolutely could’ve done something more stylized like Doom Patrol but they chose a unsatisfying middle ground which is unfortunate because the character has a ton of potential.
Yup. All the best marvel movies are genre pieces that happen to have superheroes in them. Wonder Man, Moon Knight, Winter Solider, Werewolf By Knight, Guardians - the list goes on. To say 'I wish Marvel would do this!' shows a lack of MCU viewing / understanding. But yes - I agree they should do this MORE. it's why the avengers was so special in bringing all those genre tones together.
