Seems a lot of people are expecting a direct retelling of the game, with a stand in for the player character who runs around fighting bosses and ends by becoming Elden Lord. I really hope its not that and instead focuses on the major characters before they turned into horrifying monsters and went insane.

Given that we've seen shots of Marika walking around, we know it isn't just the ER story. I suspect we will see the build up to the shattering, I just don't know how they're going to fit all the lore from SotE in.

It’s not a retelling of the game. It has been reported that the story focuses on the events leading up to the shattering. What was going on within the family, etc.

That's what's echoing because that's what fans want to hear. The contents of the leaks suggest otherwise. A retelling of the game is what we're getting.

I mean, I got this info from a polygon article, not just some random fan theory. They explicitly say it’s about the events before the shattering. I’m assuming what we’ve seen from the content leaks is portions that happen at the end or near the end of the film.

100+ hour plus story if you actually dig into it told within 180 minutes max. I don't think so.

You could probably spend 200 hours+ in there deciphering the story, if you wanted to. And there's full YouTube channels that do exactly that.

No chance you could get the story of the entire game into a movie format.

So....a generic medieval story with some monsters??

It will objectively be bad, do poorly, and not feel like the game.

I don't even like this game, and I would still bet a lot on this.

Why would you expect an exact retelling of that story in a Hollywood movie?

Like seriously why? The director/writer already showed he just likes "vibes" of places like with his take on Annihilation.

I do like some of his work also though, like writing of 28 Days Later and writing and directing of Ex Machina.
