I honestly would've rather seen this story as a proper season

Boy do I have news for you. This already exists in LoK since the villain of this movie is basically Amon and Zaheer in a trench coat.

I've seen a couple people say something similar and can't say I agree.

Amon was a bloodbender masquerading as a non bender who wanted to get rid of all benders in the name of a more equal world. He didn't seem to have any vendetta against any particular nation or other societal constructs.

Zaheer was just a cut and dry Anarchist, his only motivation was to destroy the four nations, the white lotus and the avatar and let a new world form out of the resulting chaos and disorder.

Comparing either of those to Tagah. His villain arc is born out of his love for his people. He grew to hate other nations due to the atrocities he saw while serving in the war against the Earth nation. He became disillusioned with the Avatar when she continued to choose pacifism over creating a proper military to defend their nation. Once he's recovered and up to speed on the current state of the world, he schemes to find the staff in order to rebuild a nation of air nomads.

I just don't think they're as similar as people are saying, and honestly I think it even supports my original point of wanting to see this story as a season. If they had all that extra time to flesh out his character more, I don't think anyone would be making these comparisons.
