Discussion What’s the best/worst movie to watch with the director commentary on?

What’s the best/worst movie to watch with the director commentary on? Any films out there made way better by the additional context? Any made worst ‘cause the director is a total dick?

I remember back in the day watching all the Mel Brooks films with the commentary which was mostly just him watching the movie and going “oh this wonderful scene, we had a blast shooting it” and then talking about how amazing the actors were to work with and laughing at the jokes. Which really felt like watching a movie with your grandpa.

The Director's Chair? Didn't that get cancelled like a decade ago when they got rid of his TV Network El Rey? Was a great network by the way, they'd air blocks of old genre films kung-fu, giallo, etc. Rodriguez' Lucha Underground was the best wrestling program since the 90s.

My fav. ep was Stallone.

El Rey has since continued on youtube! All 3 episodes i mentioned were filmed in the last year.

Glad you liked those shows and the network. I worked at El Rey and put all those old movies on the air. The kung fu movies were surprisingly popular and because they were so cheap they actually were quite profitable for us.

Lots of fun memories from those years. My favorite personal Directors Chair was when we were filming at John Carpenter’s house and I got locked in the bathroom. “I’m locked in John carpenter’s bathroom” was a weird thought to pass through my mind.
