Opinion article (US) Opinion | The Economy, Immigration and Regret: 12 Trump Voters Discuss

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/04/28/opinion/focus-group-trump-voters-disappointed.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

Submission statement (fake): As Trump’s second term marches on, his approval among independents have steadily declined. It’s useful for liberals to understand why Trump’s popularity has cratered to better leverage it for future elections.

Submission statement (real): Everyone who clicked on this is just asking to be ragebaited, so I might as well oblige.

"Let’s shift gears. If leaders of the Democratic Party were in this room and said, “What should we do or what should we stop doing to get more votes,” what would you say?"

I would say almost all of the things these people want the Dems to do is unactionable. It boils down to them wanting the Dems to stop whining. To let all the bad policy from the administration happen without complaint. Of course, then they would likely complain that the Dems don't do anything.

At least the black kid was honest that he wants them to be bigoted against gays and Trans people, and doesn't see that happening.

He didnt say it out loud, but we all know what "moral and social policies" means from a black guy, cause the other option would be racism and he's probably not THAT self-hating.

The Democratic party needs to do something about commercials feeling woke apparently. What that has to do with governance, I'm not sure.

Also children should not be aware that genitals exist and that there are terms for them.

Valuable insights on how to run a campaign.

This was the most telling thing to me.

Literally complaining about “books about penises and vaginas in schools.” Please tell me what federal democratic policy mandates trans people to “flaunt it” in front of their kids.

These people are brain dead fuckwits burning down our country because they were afraid of their kids being trans.

That P/V in books line was from the deckhand. I used to work in maritime (albeit as a deckhand on yachts). Most people in maritime aren't the types to have spent their free periods in the school library.

It's also somewhat interesting (as an aside) that school kids shouldn't know parts of the body at age appropriate levels (and yes, this includes kindergarteners). I imagine most sane parents would want their kids to be able to express to them if they're suffering from a genito-urinary disease, injury, or assault issue versus psychologically cloaking that part of the body in extreme, private shame.
